A while ago I dug up my BEL-80 collection. It features two tracks from Aroma Di Amore (A Band that was a very eclectic star at the Belgian sky). But it aso features two tracks from a guy called Fred A. Did some research on that name and found out it was Fred Angst of Aroma Di Amore. At that time I met ZooL. (also spelled: ZooL). on the Electrobel forum! He just released his Vadem album on U-Cover. I liked it's crispy-eclectic, but also very acoustic feel. When I did some research on Zool I found out he is Fred Angst from Aroma Di Amore. So this week features Zool, Or how an 80's eclectic icon Follows his own path and gets even more underground!

Zool. is the nickname of Gerry Vergult.
Gerry has a long history in Belgian popmusic, starting out in the early eighties with his band Aroma Di Amore, who already mixed guitars with electronic rhythms. Throughout the years Gerry developped his skills in electronic musicmaking. This resulted in several projects for theatre and movies. And with the evergrowing possibilities of computer technology, he totally surrendered to the bits and bytes. In 2004 Zool. released his first cd zoolepone, followed by zooleptwo in 2005 and vadem, the first full album in 2006.
Zool. stands for raw, but yet delicate, multi-layered electronic music. Crispy, distorted rhythms, dubby basslines and abstract clicks and cuts meticulously blend with gentle melodies and lush soundscapes, thus creating warm blankets of listening music with a heart and a soul.
