When I was doing the photos for my avatar, I tried to doing some shots posed like he is in yours, but I just could not get the expression right; he's a tough one to imitate!     :) it's not that unusual. It's the staple of most of the listeners of my age and a little above. I'm sure you must not have encountered this in your journey, as this is not what popular mass listens. As for Indian music, there's a vast variety of classical, fusion, pop, most of which can be encountered in movie songs(which is the staple of popular mass). Beside that, the album culture is not very prevalent here, but more experimentation, in rock, alt rock, fusion, world music. metal scene is still nascent here. I can't give you any names outright, that depends on genre and also my limits of knowledge of Indian music :D :)
