Well, it helps that I've been obsessively following metal for over ten years and experimental music and prog for even longer. As for why I'm so omnipresent, I guess it just has to do with the aforementioned obsessiveness about music. It's probably also a contributing factor that I studied the piano for around twelve years as well, so I have pretty extensive musical background to begin with. Anyway, thanks.

I've listened to Ulver....entirely respectable, but not my kind of music. Black metal is a tricky balance for me, since it kinda has to have a mix of intense bursts and tense atmospherics to flesh out the style well for me. Plus, lo-fi is a general turn off lol...Arcturus might be one of few bands to be lovable despite that so far though. Arcturus's use of classical instrumentation helps a lot for me, reminds me a little of recent Mirrorthrone in the baroque parts even (might be getting their classical parts confused with Sigh, not sure.)

Sleep is Wrong is bizarrely catchy to me...stuff like THe DOnkey Headed Adversary of Humanity Opens the Discussion is pure insanity. Think the only band that rivals them for pure disturbing factor would be the first two releases by SHub-Niggurath, but Lovecraftian prog rock with sci-fi themes is bound to be unsettling haha. It's like those two groups stepped in to fill the void Penderecki left when he stopped making avant-garde horror compositions.

Hehe, irgendwo muss man ja seine Lücken haben. Was Kvohst angeht, hast du Recht. Bei Code gefällt mir nach wie vor die Resplendent Grotesque am besten, da ist er nicht ganz unwesentlich dran beteiligt. Was hältst du denn vom aktuellen Album?

Hehe, no problem. I've been digging into Sleepytime Gorilla Museum the past few days, thoughts on them?

https://blood-music.bandcamp.com/album/the-last-note-in-gods-magnum-opus I know you're already aware of this band through your two scrobbles of them, but their newest release is stunning...I highly recommend Citizen Herd and Misanthrope Puppet to sample them ;)

In the Woods seems like a band I'd like more with a more impactful guitar tone...but I admit that I am a massive fan of digital distortion over analog in metal.

Every time I find a new avant-garde metal band youve already been to them haha...Pin-Up Went Down and 6:33 both have links to Carnival in Coal.

Interesting, wonder if they'll top the levels of disturbing Shug-Niggurath (Lovecraftian zeuhl) and Kryztof Penderecki have reached now

I'll add Towering Inferno to my list of groups to look up later...what is their style closest to? I think the most avant-garde groups I like that aren't metal are Ween and Devo, and both are comedic in different ways.

http://progressivemusiccomedyclub.tumblr.com/ If you want to get a good idea of my interests, I do a pretty good job of keeping this updated with one or two posts per day...used to be more, but I've been working on other things. My Last.fm stats probably don't show what I find funny very well, so...

As hilarious as this will sound, I actually started off on early 2000s nu metal and hard rock...and I have audiophile traits now lol. I used to think Sevendust and Puya was the most experimental bands got until I started loving Tool more and exploring the progressive rock/metal genre. Was definitely a bit jarring since at the time the extra instruments detracted rather than added for me. My adolescence was actually probably among the most bziarre I knew about: funk and progressive rock/metal for the instrumentation, nu metal for the lyrics (that genre is for whiny people and the mentally troubled; guess which side is more vocal,) and punk rock/hardcore/metalcore (the non-radio bands mostly) for the rebellious side. Virtuoso guitarist material followed, though, and I actually cite Jeff Loomis's solo album Plains of Oblivion for sparking my interest in classical, alongside the handful of good symphonic metal bands out there.
