Dandelion Radio - April 2011 shows

Andrew Morrison:
Andy introduces two shows during April's schedule. His regular 3-hour show features a brand new session from progressive trance act Cygnus X-1 - his second for the show. There's exciting new (and some old) music from Sleigh Bells, Harrys Gym, Napoleon IIIrd, Red Cosmos, Dave.I.D, Trembling Blue Stars, The Horn The Hunt, Sabres Of Paradise, Swans and Team Ghost, to name just a handful. Teresa introduces a Tasty Tip, Scott selects a Funky Five Minutes, and there's another competition to win a bumper bundle of CDs.Elsewhere in the schedule, Andy's Archives is back, with an hour of top tunes from ten or more years ago, randomly picked from Andy's record collection. Classic tracks come from Curve, 808 State, Aphex Twin and many more!

Greg Healey: Five, four, two. No, not a defensively minded line up selected to nullify the attacking fluency of Arsenal, but rather this month's show from Greg Healey, which features five sessions over four hours divided into two, two hours shows. With sessions from Scotland's very own Dub Chieftain, Gordon and Gunn (featuring Dandelion Radio's and Toffeetronic's Matt Gunn), John Trap (solo) from France, Machine Boy plus a session Ribside and the Ribside Band, expect a sonic away leg in the company of some of the finest independent acts around. All this, plus the debut single from an artist, Jay Stansfield, who, thanks in part to his recent Dandelion Radio session, recently signed his first recording contract. Also expect tracks from the superb new Adam & Alma album and Lord Numb's recent release, oranges at half time and much more.

Jeff Grainger: Jeff returns to Dandelion Radio this Month with a 3 hour show featuring new tracks by The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Das Fluff, WU LYF White Fence Helixir & Moon Duo and dip into the past with Letta Mbulu, Jacqueline Taieb and of course Elvis – yes THAT Elvis. For all you 'Exclusive Mongers' we have another of the Calvin Party's unreleased gems plus two sessions, no less, in the shape of The Fag Machine’s debut and Truth About Frank, who bring us their long awaited second for Dandelion Radio. To top it all April's Featured LP is the magnificent 'Processed' by Gabrielle's Wish.

Marcelle: 'What's wrong with Marcelle?'Marcelle starts this month's show with the shocking announcement that she will be playing some mp3's in her show, therefore endangering her reputation as vinyl-only dj. She tries to cover this faux pas by also playing amazing new vinyl records from the Mississippi label, Seefeel, Wire, Les Ya Toupos Du Zaire, Digital Mystikz, Hoodz, Frente Cumbiero, Foster Manganyi Na Tintsumi Ta Tilo and the wonderfully named Evolution Control Committee and Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp. She even plays two whole LP sides from the extremely weird Expressway Yo-Yo Dieting, but one can't help feeling a bit cheated listening to this show: mp3's!!! Marcelle!! For G*d's sake!!What made her take this step in the direction of comfort, free music, no record sleeves, empty hands, in short: total boredom? Well, the Fall website did. People on The Fall forum made 30 cover versions of all songs from The Fall's Hex Enduction Hour and a single from the same time. And put it on their website. And when Marcelle heard a child singing "Just Step S'ways" she forgot her principles and downloaded the whole project. Succesfully. There really is nothing sacred in this world anymore.Next month: Marcelle plays some mp5's!?

Mark Cunliffe: As we tootle along into April just remember every day is a fools day for the A-Team's BA. What can we try and calm him down with this month so he'll actually get on the plane?Well, Daisuke Tanabe is trying to tell him he'll Live4Ever …. bit far fetched? Dara Chom Chan only want one, but can they have more if they like? Augustus Ghost have trapped one of The Ant Hill Mob in Mother Mother's Hay Loft and Alberto Veto have joined the circus and are in training for the highwire which Haiku Salut are keeping mum about. Banjo Dave is in session with no less than five fabulous songs. Face thinks it's great but BA still ain't getting on no plane …

Mark Whitby: In my bit of the northern hemisphere, the days are getting longer, clothes are getting shorter and everyone's feeling a bit more frisky. What are thoughts turning to? The twin delights of an exclusive session from Earthling Society and a bunch of tracks from The Fall tribute album Hex Enduction Ours, I should think, as well as a whole load of new releases from the likes of Bass Drum Of Death, Bearsuit, Moon Duo and Explosions In The Sky .There's a dyslexic study of anatomy courtesy of Stripper Pussy, negative hometown vibes from Slug Guts, hydrophobic musings from Wet Years and a ska-inflected flavour to this month's Peel Back & Sniff. We've also got Earth Girl Helen Brown experiencing some extremely close encounters with alien life forms and Zoomonk, The Death Set and Victorian Hardware reflecting on varying forms of violence against their fellow humans while Pete Wylie reserves his considerable ire for one notorious eighties politician. Oh, and if you're planning a party and you want it to be a blood-free occasion, better steer clear from inviting Tactus.

Paul Ackroyd: Another month, another new compilation from my favourite folks on the planet, Mississippi Records. This time it's Ishilan N-Tenere, a collection of guitar music from Senegal and Mali, and I've gotten myself predictably obsessed with it, so you'll be hearing three tracks off that. Other Mississippi records I can't seem to put down at the moment are Mortika - Recordings From A Greek Underworld, and the gospeltastic In The Storm So Long, so plenty from those in the show too.Another record I've become totally preoccupied with over the past couple of weeks is 936, the new album from Peaking Lights on Not Not Fun, so there's a couple of bits from that in the show too. That aside, expect to hear new bits from Marcell Dettmann, NKC, Bullion, ESG, Seiji, Old Apparatus, How To Dress Well, Dem Hunger, and Shackleton, plus some classic bits from Tim Hecker, Cyclo, Mokira, and Daniel Johnston.Oh yeah, and a couple of bits from that Thai? Dai! compilation that Finders Keepers kindly released. And a few more bits besides. It's three hours of solid hits!!

Pete Jackson: Have you ever seen a Psychedelic Circus? This month's show might be just the thing you're looking for, then, with a new session from Gothenberg's The Greencoats, tracks from new releases by Moon Duo, Gum Takes Tooth, Mogwai and Dementio 13, plus we check in with the Sexy Neighbours and The Insane Warrior, get two tracks featuring Sugar Minott and encounter assorted oddness from the likes of Wolfboy Slim, Broken Shoulder, Banjo Or Freakout and The Samsara Blues Experiment.

Rocker: Another packed three hour show this month, featuring an exclusive new session from San Francisco's Eux Autres, and two featured LPs - from The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and The Felt Tips. There's new tracks from The Blanche Hudson Weekend; Napalm Death; One Fathom Down; Sarandon; Liechtenstein; Evil Hand; Horowitz; X-ing School; Mogwai; Crystal Stilts; Standard Fare; Low; Help Stamp Out Loneliness; The Whatevers; Darren Hayman; and The Lovely Eggs. The Primitives cover Lee Hazlewood protegé Suzi Jane Hokom, and the 1966 original gets a spin too. Boys Noize remix David Lynch, and there's also electronica from Microtrauma; Fabric; and Tom Glass.Last month I DJd at the first Madrid Popfest, and bought back some records - I give you Spanish indiepop from Aias to Zipper. This month's Peel's Big 45 is a little known punk gem from Alaska circa 1980, while this month's Educating Elizabeth record is a soul classic from 1966.As well as little known acts, here's a little known fact: Frances Nero was the first female artist to record on Berry Gordy's Soul record label - She won her recording contract with Motown in a talent contest.

Sean Hocking: Another 1 hour show from Hong-Kong based Sean Hocking.Amoung the featured tracks are Mobidextrous, Block 45 and a current favourite of Mark Coles whose BBC World Service music show has recently come to an end, Cambodian Space Project.

Ste McCabe: April brings a one hour show of pure noise, itchy pop, electro fun, queer politics and feminist dancing! There's new tracks by Manchester's filthiest duo Saltylips and underground legends Das Wanderlust. New queer punk comes courtesy of Woolf and Trash Kit as the two bands celebrate the release of their split 7" on Milk Records. Throw in a re-appearence from Echobelly in the form of Calm of Zero, amongst, of course, many other fine underground treats, and viola! We have one very lovely hour. Enjoy, my sweet piggies.
