Textures almost have a new album out! :D

'Silhouettes' will be released April 21st, 2008. I'm looking forward to it already, 'pre-ordered' it (claims to be a 6-fold digipak with gold print which sounds promising).

And to make me even more envious, Textures posted a preview track of the new album, Old days born anew, also available on Last.fm.

And I freaking love it!! Seriously, good stuff. First couple of times I heard it I really liked the first part of it, but the second part was a bit too Meshuggy for me (I made that word up, it means Meshuggah-ish). But, as you may have noticed if you have been watching my profile (in case you have, seek help!), I honestly love it now.

The singing is absolutely stunning. almk said it reminded him of Devin Townsend, which is a huge compliment.
Musically, Textures are a lot like Meshuggah, but better. More varied, melodic and down-to-earth. I'm quite sure Silhouettes will run circles around ObZen, which turned out to be the usual mathmetal borefest that can be expected from Meshuggah.

Bring it on!

1. Old days born anew
2. The Sun's Architect
3. Awake
4. Laments of an Icarus
5. One eye for a thousand
6. State of Disobedience
7. Storm warning
8. Messengers
9. To erase a lifetime

Hey dudes, It wouldn't be cool if our Last FM profile is going to be the next boring forum. So keep the peace please. And respect to our swedish masters. And thanx for the credits as well. We hope you like the upcoming album.

Love the songs - can't wait for the whole thing, but please is it necessary to call obZen borefest??? Just don't talk about it at all...

Thank you. I am not wrong, I merely have an opinion that is different from yours. And I think it's a well-founded opinion, I just didn't bother writing the reasoning, so I will now. Textures obviously draw a lot of influences from Meshuggah, sometimes blatantly copying their style. This is why I compare Silhouettes to ObZen. Also because the latter has been highly anticipated and highly hyped. But, to me, Textures are the better band, for a couple of very simple reasons. They incorporate more melody and ambience into their music, they are a lot more varied, and as it turns out now, they have a great singer as well. Don't get me wrong, I greatly admire Meshuggah's talent. I just think that they hardly do anything interesting with it (with the exception of I, I absolutely love that song to death and beyond). Even though with ObZen, they indicated that they wanted to take a different direction, and it started out promising. Combustion and Bleed are great songs, faster and more interesting than other Meshuggah. But the rest of the album (minus the first half of Pravus) is just the same old stuff, chugging the same chord and the same riff over and over again, with the polyrhythmic drumming. Incidentally broken up by some *ploink ploink* pretentious guitar picking. And besides, the guitar sound is just horrible, what's the point of 8 strings if they sound like a tin can? It seems to me that Meshuggah have lost touch with reality. When they started out, they had a unique formula that interested a lot of people. But as time went on, they focused too much on that formula and tried to narrow their music down to just that, trying to take it to new extremes every time. In the meantime, they forgot that what they were doing just isn't cool anymore. What they should have done is look around them, take a couple of influences from outside, and extend their style rather than narrow it down. And I think that is exactly what Textures did, and from what I've heard so far (2 songs: Old days born anew and Storm warning), Silhouettes is going to show the world how it's done. There you have it. Just my opinion, and you don't have to take it for the truth. In fact, I'd rather you not. Just read what I wrote, think about it, see if you agree or not, and weigh it to your own judgement, creating your own opinion. And if your opinion is different from mine, that's excellent, because it means you're an intelligent, reasonable person. As long as you cut me some slack and accept the fact that other opinions, and in this case mine, are different. Accept that and enjoy it, the world would be boring if everyone had the same opinion (and you probably would be listening to hiphop). To conclude, a famous quote (although I don't know who said it):
Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and most of them are full of shit.
PS: Just to be clear, if this post is directed to anyone in particular at all, it's you the reader. Not particularly someone who posted here and criticized me. I realize that my criticism of Meshuggah in the article was a bit sudden, out of the blue and unfounded, so I tought I'd add to that. Cheers, Biert PPS: now I'm really done. This turned out longer than the original article :P

I'm kinda puzzled why you like I among all of their stuff, if you hate that recent, trancey, post DEI droning style. I is glaring example of this, 20 minutes of shifting rhythms. If your main problem with them is that they're boring, then I'd expect you pointing to their earlier works (Contradictions Collapse have lots of beautiful melodies in Thonderdals solos, and nice quiet parts, DEI is good in it too - Acrid placidity is indeed acrid, serene and just pretty piece of music). By the way, what do you think about songs like Rational Gaze, Perpetual Black Second or Straws Pulled At Random off Nothing? They're actually kinda catchy, especially brilliant outro of Straws.

Though I have to agree, Textures maybe not Destroyed and Erased Meshuggah, but certainly Improved the idea.
