Mon 22 Oct – Everything Everything, Fiction
Let me open this by saying that Everything Everything were on top form, the new songs sounded more defined than in february and the decision to hire an extra member to play keyboard really opened up the stage and allowed Jon to move around and show more charisma, and it has left me feverntly awaiting the new album in January.
However to move on to more pressing issues, the staffing, notably one bouncer.
Approximately 5 minutes before the band were due to take to the stage a bouncer made his way into the crowd and stood right in front of me and my girlfriend, as we were up agains the stage ourselves, pushing us out of the way and blocking our view of the full band. He was frequently looking at us which made me feel really uncomfortable and unable to really immerse myself in the great performing that was going on.
I ended up having to move back to get out of his way as he was pushing me out of my place; and then, if that wasn't enough, around thirty minutes before the end of the show beckoned a barely-dressed girl to come to the front of the crowd, pushing between the rest of my party, to stand in front of us taking bad quality pictures on a professional camera (which according to the ticket is strictly forbidden, considering she didn't have a press pass) who was clearly overly drunk and consistently staggering, kissing the bouncer and spilling her drink on the stage equipment.
At this point I had come to the conclusion that he had a grudge against me and the rest of my party as, after the show had ended, he refused to let us take a setlist from the stage, after letting someone else take another one, and then telling us all to 'piss off from me'.
Overall I was left unable to fully enjoy the great performance, I was able to see it and hear it well and I did have a good time, but compared to other times I've seen them in other venues, it really irritated me that I felt too uncomfortable to move or sing along when Everything Everything were probably better than I've seen them before (which is four times).
Needless to say me and my party have all filed complaints against the member of staff, but until I know that he won't be working there, I have no desire to see any bands at Gorilla, which is unfortunate considering that the acoustics are very strong and, other than that, the venue has a great atmosphere.
