Wed 1 Jul – Media Blitz, At Will, StickCityMafia, The One-Hitter Quitters
So, last night was Beav's Promotions
' big show at the handlebar. It turned out fairly well, but not without a fair share of difficulty.
Tuesday, I get word that Bad Karma
(One of three bands playing) has dropped off the bill. I have to find a replacement last minute, and that sends me into a stressed out frenzy. I manage to obtain At Will
from Destin, and they're good to play, for free even. That worked out.
Wednesday night, I show up to work, and Sue (my boss) is like, "Beav, I need to talk to you." So, we went and talked. There was apparently a lot of confusion about the show, and she didn't know all of the details, and wasn't sure how the show was going on. She said that I couldn't charge a cover, and that I had better not scare away he preppy wednesday night crowd with my "loud ass hardcore punk
music. She was pissed at me, so I just let her tell her piece, and then I left for a bit.
I come back to the bar to find StickCityMafia
already there, and ready to play for free, and Charles, the sound guy is cool with it. At Will showed up shortly thereafter, and so did Media Blitz
About 5 minutes after Media Blitz showed up, I get a call asking if another band, Big Science Action
, could jump on the show, and Charles didn't care, so I said yes. Shortly after Big Science Action showed up, another touring band from Texas called Stymie
, comes and tells me their plight. They were originally supposed to play 309 Haus, that show got canceled, so they tried to hop on another house show with This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb
, and that show failed, so they begged me to play, and it was now a 5 band show.
So, At Will played first, then Big Science, then Stymie, then Media Blitz, then StickCityMafia, and all was well. Well, until.....
A secret performer popped up after StickCity and played the worst show ever, they called themselves The One-Hitter Quitters
, and they had formed the day before. They broke up right after that show.
All in all, it was a good show, and I hope that the bands had as much fun as I did, that everyone got drunk, and that the bar made a decent amount of money.
BEST WEDNESDAY, EVER!
