"No matter how thier products look and sound, they are successes, listeners are forced to sing them to themselves, not only because the most finely tooled machinery hammers it into them, but because the monopoly of the sound film prevents all other musical commodities, from which they might choose something else, from reaching them"

- Theodor Adorno, from his 1932 essay "On the Social Situation of Music"

Music has the power to bend you, and people have the power to put the music they want you to hear in the foreground... Very interesting theology behind this one.

I won't comment too much. I just always find myself attracted to a persons musical tastes almost as much as the person themselves. Depth in musical taste equals a depth in personality.

The two best artists that spring to mind on this subject are Maynard James Kennan and Trent Reznor.

What equals crap is deleting comments when someone says something you don’t agree with.

I originally commented saying something to the extent that Tool and Nine Inch Nails equal pop. Pop music can be wonderful however those artists are far from wonderful. This is journal is crap but what else could one expect from a Marilyn Manson fan etc etc

I response to my comments getting deleted I feel I must add.

I don’t judge people on their musical tastes even if they are as woeful as your’s Lee, I’m not that shallow! However I do judge people on their integrity and let me just say, I don’t find myself attracted to you!

We've heard this senseless times regarding modern rock. We've heard a ton of whiners claiming rock is dead for either the "Fall Out Boys" or the "Nickelbacks". Most suggest that the radio friendly artists are taking too much of the airtime on radios (mainly here in the States...not sure how it works for the Europeans and Worldsters). Regarding Fall Out Boys (aka, "emo"/"pop punk wave 3" bands), most don't even get too much airtime here on my hometown rock station...such acts from what I know include Panic! At the Disco, My Chemical Romance, and The All-American Rejects...but as I said, NONE of them are played on the rock station I listen too (it's an active rock format that does play newer music as you'll find out...)

But the main issue is about our favorite band to bash out of Canada...Nickelback. We know this already, that website involving How You Remind Me of Someday. We know about their concers, and their below average songwriting (personally, I like earlier stuff, but I know the band isn't original and I will only listen to them once in a while).

But anyways, because of their huge success on the charts, they've been coined as the "most radio friendly band" currently. Some claim Nickelback has brought in an array of clones that have ruined radio stations. But there's one thing...who are the clones?

Nickelback is classified by many as a post-grunge band (I never use that tag anymore ever since I found out the term was poorly defined and some began listing Stone Temple Pilots, Weezer, and KoЯn as post-grunge), but there seems to be 2 eras of this post-grunge era:

90s rock: Foo Fighters, Bush, Candlebox, Better Than Ezra, Third Eye Blind
Modern Rock: Creed, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, 3 Doors Down, Puddle of Mudd

So what bout the clones? Well, they supposedly imitate Nickelback in terms of style of music...radio-friendly, simple, etc. From the ANTI-NICKELBACK group, the major examples given out include Theory of a Deadman, Default, and Hinder, mainly due to style and sometimes the voice (most "atrocious" post-grunge bands normally rip off Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and Layne Staley of Alice in Chains).

But are these the only clones out there? These bands can't be doing it alone. Toad isn't even that popular here. Default only had 2 hits, and that was way back in 2003 before they faded out. So who are these other "clones"? Are they even "clones"? Do they even deserve to be bashed in the first place or instead, rather praised?

I don't know clearly who began talking about Nickelback's formula for success and the bands that come. Is it just another elitist term, or is there some reasoning behind it.

The only other "post-grunge" bands that I know have been gaining a ton of radio success include the ones listed in modern rock, Fuel, Seether, Chevelle, 30 Seconds to Mars, Staind (if they even count as one), and well Godsmack

A lot of people agree that the radio isn't a great place these days to gather music. Nickelback might be part of the "blame", but are there really clones out there that are causing a mess in the music industry?

Before anyone steps out and blasts me for thinking I'm putting down bands, I'm not doing that. Just trying to gather information from the music community...no, I'm not going to write a 400-page nonfiction bestseller on the Nickelback clones so don't get too worked up, ok?

What are the Big Sexy Shaq clones? Well they are less humorous and a hell of a lot less articulate.

Basically I said something to the extent of
Rock music is dead. I think we should start referring to rock as stone because it’s stone-age dinosaur music no one should waste their time with.
