Great to hear from you and big thanks for your friend request:)) ...at the moment I have a lot to do...I´ve founded my own music label www.zeitart-music.com and work on several concepts for artist selfdevelopment...a lot of work but with a lot of fun and enthusiasm.... The long story ... [Margot]
It all started when I was a little girl.
For some reason (I might never remember) I was determined to go to music school to learn an instrument - although no'one in my family is even remotely musical (except maybe my brother).
But I went anyway - I chose the violin; and my mum supported me and even sat with me learning my pieces for concerts even though she couldn't read a single note. Second year I added piano - apparently one instrument wasn't enough for the little me ....
When I turned 16 my schoolwork became too much and I dropped out of piano after 6 years but I still went on playing the violin. So when I turned 18 I had 9 years of violin lessons behind me. After that, I played the violin in the Symphonic Orchestra of the University of Ghent (GUSO) for three years, where I met the love of my life.

A Fragile Spell started in september 2007. I discovered YouTube and with it all the young independent artists, writing their own music. When I saw Ana Free's video's I just knew I had to learn to play the guitar and start writing songs. After just one month of player guitar ('till I couldn't stop the bleeding with bandages anymore) I wrote my first song. I've never stopped since but it's a proces that comes and goes: sometimes I'll write two songs in a week or even a day and other times 3 months go by without writing a single line. That's the beauty of music and being an independant artist; there's no obligation and I can just follow my heart. I write music mainly for myself and I just hope other people will enjoy it too. I love how my musical style changes over time - it's a lot different now than it was at the beginning. And I say different (and not 'better') because I still stand behind my older songs: I like them, I still play them, I just don't write anything like that anymore. I guess it has a lot to do with age ... When I started out I was still a teenager, now I'm almost 5 years older and although I still feel like the same me I guess I'm not. But that's normal, right?

Last year I worked hard to make my dream come true: record an EP. And I did it. Now I'm starting to realize that's not the end; it feels like I fell into a black whole and I'm just crawling back out ... Making 'Dawn' put a lot of new ideas in my head and I learned a lot. So I'm trying to avoid the emptyness after the storm and focus on new projects: writing new music, getting my existing music out there for people to hear, promoting my EP, making this new website, playing liveshows near my hometown, maybe recording a musicvideo, ... I just want to give myself the space and time to grow musically and at the same time take opportunities that will bring me farther. That harmony is (for me) the single most important thing of being an independant artist: you can do whatever you want and make choises however you like - it just needs to feel right. And because I missed something A Fragile Spell is now growing and becoming a full band so stay tuned for new music and different live shows.

Of course some of you may be wondering where A Fragile Spell comes from. Well to me it's really important that the artist name represents the music. So I went searching through my own emotions, my favourite songs, and what I wanted to bring in my music. Two of my (still) favourite songs are Fragile by Delta Goodrem, and Spell by Marié Digby. If you put those together, you get a feeling that's perfectly representing the feeling I want you to have when you listen to my music. To complete it, I kind of 'stole' the format from A Fine Frenzy ('cause I adore her music and love the way she puts emotions into her songs).

Love,
Margot
