Thrash metal

Matrice di tutti i generi del metal estremo, il thrash metal è un sottogenere dell’heavy metal, che combina le tecniche di quest’ultimo e dell’hardcore punk. Runoflife is talking about US power metal though, which has always been more of a relatively underground style when compared to the "flowery" European variety. Assuming you even consider US power metal to be power metal that is.

Also I can hardly say how a power metal bands is selling out since power metal itself is in general a mainstream genre. "Selling out" for a power metal band would be turning into pop rock.

Pop metal is stuff like Def Leppard, Turbo era Judas Priest and Scorpions from Blackout forward. Metallica made a heavy metal album and then two hard rock albums, Megadeth followed a similar path and Slayer were hardly the only thrash band, American or otherwise, who dabbled in alternative rock/metal (Kreator, Forbidden, Destruction, Sepultura, Depressive Age) or went post-thrash/groove (Testament, Flotsam & Jetsam, Prong, Demolition Hammer, Exodus). Very few 1980s thrash bands who didn't disband kept playing thrash in the 1990s like Sodom.
