Biografia

Waddinxveen, Paesi Bassi (1996 – presente)

I Within Temptation sono un gruppo musicale olandese, fondato nell’aprile 1996 dal chitarrista Robert Westerholt e dalla cantante Sharon den Adel nella cittadina di Waddinxveen, nell’Olanda Meridionale. Sono annoverati tra le più famose band nella scena gothic metal di fine anni ‘90 e sono noti soprattutto per voce della cantante soprano Sharon den Adel, tra le più apprezzate in ambito metal.

Fino ad oggi la band ha pubblicato 4 album in studio, 2 EP, 3 DVD dal vivo con relativi CD audio, e un ulteriore album live acustico. Inoltre, dall’uscita dell’album Mother Earth, è tradizione della band pubblicare un DVD dopo ogni nuovo album. Vi era un gemellaggio tra la band olandese e gli Orphanage, con i quali i membri dei Within Temptation hanno avuto collaborazioni nonostante il loro scioglimento (avvenuto nell’ottobre 2005).
Dai loro esordi il gruppo ha venduto oltre 2 milioni di copie, tra CD e DVD, in tutto il mondo, facendone la band olandese con i più alti risultati di vendita all’estero e una delle realtà rock cresciute più in fretta a livello internazionale.

Nell’aprile 1996 Robert Westerholt – dopo aver lasciato la sua band precedente, i The Circle, per divergenze artistiche – fonda i The Portal assieme alla sua ragazza Sharon den Adel, oltre a Jeroen van Veen, Michiel Papenhove (ex-membri dei Voyage) e il fratello minore Martijn Westerholt. Successivamente il nome della band cambia in Within Temptation.

    Here is Timo Tolkki's Avalon (if he had chosen a less ridiculously banal name perhaps he could have avoided the even more ridiculous Saxon genitive in it) 's collaboration with Elize Ryd from Amaranthe and Sharon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3L3xnU_3d_o Sharon can be heard for about 30 seconds starting from 1:22. Given her small and unnoticeable appearance, I really wonder why she bothered wasting time for such a lame and useless collaboration... Where is Armin Van Buuren when you need him?

    Back to the band, from the newsletter: "Sharon and I have been busy with ideas for the first video, cause, due to reasons we have to be mysterious about, we already have to shoot it next month aaaaaaargh that's really quick and of course we never panic...I guess... Oh yeah and I promised to reveal something about the new album...well this first song is def no ballad, it's fast it's hard it's epic...and that's not even the best about it... I'm sorry we have to do it again and have to leave you in the dark a bit more on what that is but time's running fast so don't panic..."

    Well, I appreciate Britney more than Lana because the former is open and honest about her being nothing more than a popstar, having careful market planning behind her, using loads of autotune and being awful live, while Lana pretends to be be making some sophisticated kind of music while being very genuine about it, her public image and stuff. That, and "I'm a studio singer" when people started noticing she sucks live. Nothing wrong in being a fabricated popstar who can't actually put two notes in a bucket and is in the business thanks to her papa's money, but hey, don't try to look the girl next door who crawled from underneath a bridge after years of poverty. Now you understand my reasons? :)
