New York, Stati Uniti (1981 – presente)

Musica Barbarico Romantica

JunglemanchiId, is right. I do understand your point of view, BLB is so epic as Invictus or Marriages, but with sort of variation and cadences. However, i prefer Invictus.

i'll give a pinky toe to see them live; dont even care if they sound sub-par live

"I don't understand, Junglemanchild, how does BLB even begin to resemble "more grandiose" than, say, Marriages (w/ Invictus) and Atreus pt. I. :)" - I think they are. Perhaps not in terms of epic metal sound but in terms of songwriting and what they are trying to pull off. Listen to VoE and BLB, see how long each song is, how often each song changes direction etc etc. That's what I mean. More and more seems to get added to the songs as new albums are released. I love those albums but I really really want another Invictus / Atreus style album before they call it a day :D .

Unfortunately, Virgin Steele have serious difficulties pulling off their sound live (David DeFeis seems to spend entire gigs playing about with how his voice should sound). In the metal scene, the easiest way to be known is by earning a reputation as a good live band - unless there's a label you religiously follow. Not much metal is promoted via the media nowadays.

They're one of my favorite bands, been listening to them since 2003.... yet it seems that they're getting less and less famous every year, thanks to lack of touring and poorly produced (VOE) or downright bad (BLB) albums....

I mean, how much more grandiose than "Veni, Vidi, Vici" can you possibly get in any type of music? :D

V Yes. After pretty much forcing myself to like Black Light Bacchanalia, it still feels a bit dry and bland sometimes. It took a hell of a lot of time to get into it, and even then it's nowhere near VS's best works. I don't know Kiara, nor what DD has done with her supposedly, but speaking only about Virgin Steele, yes, both his vocals and songwriting seem to be going down with him. Only the sheer amount of material he seems to write nowadays is concerning - there is bound to be SO MUCH throwaway stuff that will only make it to the bonuses, and he can hardly write a consistent album anymore. I still liked Visions of Eden a lot, especially Immortal I Stand and some of those slower songs, but with Invictus II, VoE and BLB, it's been increasingly difficult all the time. The guy seems great merely with ballads these days. I don't understand, Junglemanchild, how does BLB even begin to resemble "more grandiose" than, say, Marriages (w/ Invictus) and Atreus pt. I. :)

VS has been my favorite band for going on 20 years, but I didn't like Visions of Eden or Blacklight (and am not alone in that), so I would differ about a reduction in writing quality. Yet unlike most bands, I will give VS a 3rd and 4th and probably 5th chance to win me back.

His song writing hasn't dwindled. Each project seems to be more grandiose. Just hoping the Invictus bonus CD has actual Invictus style tracks.

Just read the news, and I say this as a huge fan... Why o why would David work with Kiara, former Skylark singer and my official vote for Worst Metal Vocalist in the History Of Time Itself. She just cannot sing, period. I have hope for VS 2014, but it looks more and more as if DD's best days are behind him. :( :( :(

So a whole new bonus CD w/ Invictus re-release in February, then one out of the promised three new studio albums coming out in September, and the DVD's on hold? I don't exactly hold my breath, but good news nonetheless! :> In the meantime I better listen to those NS, AoC and LAtR re-release bonuses!
