i was 15 and visiting london for the first time when this came out. the video for "why does it always rain on me?" came on tv in my hotel room and i felt like buying something so i walked across the street to some big chain record store and bought the cd along with something i'd heard of called ok computer. it cost like 15 pounds which was a lot of money to me. i spent a lot of the trip on buses ensconced in headphones listening to those two albums over & over on my discman. when i listen to ok computer today i'm still blown away by the music but it doesn't have the proustian effect this album has on me. the first note of "writing to reach you" summons up all the memories, sights, smells, emotions that i experienced on that trip, and it lasts all the way to the end of "blue flashing light" (why did they hide this at the end? it's a mystery). every time i listen it triggers new memories that i had forgotten about. anyway that's why this is a classic album to me. just thought i'd share.

Sometimes it feels like Fran Healy and co. is talking about me, that the Man from the title is me. It's like a personal anthem, the whole album. That's why it's my favourite Travis album and will stay my favourite.
