As a venue, The Duchess is of a decent size, but a basement with a low ceiling doesn't make for great acoustics. Nevertheless, this was very enjoyable evening of music.
Marc Atkinson kicked off proceedings with a short acoustic set of mainly solo material that also touched on his work with Riversea and Nine Stones Close. The two Riversea tracks -
In the Beginning and Eden, from their long-awaited album Out of an Ancient World - were excellent, their stripped-down form only serving to emphasise Marc's rich, soulful voice. I hadn't heard any of his solo work prior to this show, but was impressed enough to buy his 2006 album THIS IS WHERE WE ARE from the merch desk as soon as his set finished.
Main attractions Touchstone and The Reasoning have been alternating in the headline spot on this tour, and this time it was the turn of The Reasoning to play the supporting role. …
