IMO, It's their best 2000's release. Not as strong as their 90's albums, but their most creatively vibrant in a while.

Definitely a huge grower--over the past year, it's turned out to be as compulsively listenable as the best entries of their discography (TNT). And "Charteroak Foundation" has secured a spot as one of my favorite Tortoise tunes.

i'm sorry guys, this album is hella dope. their best all-around release along with TNT. not to say that there aren't some dead moments, but tortoise albums are growers not showers.

Haven't formed a final opinion yet, but I'm leaning towards a thumbs down at the moment. Not much on here that inspires. The best tracks seem to simply rehash older ideas and the worst are throwaway nonsense. Elsewhere Tortoise slip back into muzak territory, something they have always struggled to avoid. Then again, there are a few potential gems in here. Tortoise have never recorded a great album imho. Just the odd great track mixed in among a heap of failed experiments and pointless excursions. Business as usual then.

not sure yet. going to give it another dozen listens. i think "Yinxianghechengqi" sounds like "Plaid" through a distortion pedal.

Quite possibly their weakest release to date.

Penumbra sounds like a Boards of Canada song.
