I New Year sono una band formata dai fratelli Matt e Bubba Kadane. Nascono musicalmente nel 1999, dalle ceneri del progetto musicale Bedhead, una band in voga negli anni 90 e di cui i fratelli Kadane facevano parte. Se in precedenza spaziavano tra lo slowcore e il post-rock, oggi la loro musica predilige composizioni elettroacustiche, la cui sonorità pop li avvicina ai Death Cab For Cutie. Una curiosità: tutte le copertine degli album, finora pubblicati (2008, ndr), sono monocromatiche poiché, attraverso il colore scelto, intendono avvicinarsi alla musicalità dei brani in essi contenuti.
Pur costituendo un progetto musicale incentrato sul duo Kadane, la band si avvale anche (soprattutto, ma non solo, per le performance live) di Mike Donofrio, Josh McKay, Peter Schmidt e Chris Brokaw, amici di vecchia data dei due fratelli.

The New Year is absolutely fantastic, one of the most powerful bands I've ever heard. I so much hope they go to Europe again.. but they've been silent since 2009, and I can't find any news out there. For people who like them, I can warmly recommend everything by Bottomless Pit.
