I The Microphones erano la prima incarnazione dei Mount Eerie, band statunitense di scuola low-fi capitanata da Phil Elvrum. Fondamentalmente si trattava di un progetto di Elvrum supportato in studio e dal vivo da turnisti occasionali.
Nel 2004 il progetto prende ufficialmente il nome di Mount Eerie seppure nel 2006 elvrum abbia invece pubblicato un nuovo singolo da titolo Two Songs con il precedente monicker di The Microphones. Attualmente non è quindi chiaro se le due incarnazioni proseguiranno come progetti paralleli o se Elvrum intende tornare al precedente nome.
