Or you could pay attention to the last nine years (and more) of Obama and Bush socialism and and wonder if the ignorant, patriotic moron had it right. Oh wait, this is "subversive", and a "glorious, fragmented mess" Has to be cool and right.

A glorious, fragmented mess. Brazenly self-conscious (half its lyrics are about the song and its place in pop culture), provocative ("this song promotes homosexuality"), and innovative. With the exception of a few Gang of Four songs, this is probably the most radical piece of left-wing agitprop to appear on a major-label album. If forced to hazard a guess about the song's lyrical intent, I'd say it's about connecting two things: the Mekons inability to say what they want to say (because theirs songs would be censored and ignored), and the wider culture of "selfishness and greed" that's wholly concerned with selling consumer goods and creating false heroes. The rather conservative musical backing (accordion, violin, and drumming) makes its lyrical sentiments even more powerful: imagine a competent country four-piece band reading Adorno and ranting about the suffocating complacency of the surrounding culture. And yes, it's as weird as that description makes it sound.
