The Golden Filter are an electronic duo based in New York City. Lead singer Penelope Trappes grew up in Lismore, near Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia, while disco and analogue synth programmer Stephen Hindman is originally from Ohio, United States.
They produced their first single, “Solid Gold”, in July 2008, which was eventually released on February 15, 2009 on the Dummy Records label, and is also available as track nine on the album Infinity +1 by A-Trak. Its video was filmed in Australia, near Melbourne. They have also released official remixes of “We Are the People” (Empire of the Sun), “New in Town” (Little Boots), “Madder Red” (Yeasayer), “Lay It Down” (Peter Bjorn and John) and “Far Away” (Cut Copy).
They performed at the SXSW Music Festival at least seven times in March 2009, and toured the United States with The Presets between March 30 and April 20, 2009, performing in Atlanta, Carrboro, Washington, D.C., New York, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Cleveland, Chicago, Denver, Murray, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Pomona. They have also done three short UK tours.
They appeared at the Iceland Airwaves Festival on October 16, 2009. On November 16, their second single, “Thunderbird”, was released by Dummy.
They list Saint Etienne and Pink Floyd as significant influences on their musical style.
