Biografia

I Dream Syndicate erano un gruppo musicale rock statunitense formatosi a Davis, California, nel 1981. Per le sonorità vengono inseriti nel filone dei gruppi . La prima formazione comprendeva Steve Wynn (chitarra e voce), Karl Precoda (chitarra), Kendra Smith (basso e voce) e Dennis Duck (batteria). Si sono sciolti nel 1989.

Nel 1978, a Davis, città universitaria vicino a San Francisco, Steve Wynn, Kendra Smith, Steve Suchill, Russ Tolman e Gavin Blair … , si trovano a suonare insieme nei Suspects, una band che si scioglie dopo aver pubblicato un 45 giri dal titolo It’s up to You, per nulla memorabile, ma ricercatissimo dai collezionisti. Tolman e Blair danno vita ai True West e Wynn emigra a Los Angeles dove forma i 15 Minutes e fonda un’etichetta discografica, la Down There, per la quale il gruppo incide un singolo: That’s What You Always Said, dopodiché si dissolve. Nati come naturale evoluzione dei 15 Minutes, i Dream Syndicate si formano a Los Angeles nel 1981. Il nome della band si rifà a quello di una formazione sperimentale nella quale il compositore Lamonte Young era affiancato da John Cale in un periodo precedente la nascita dei Velvet Underground. Leader della band è Steve Wynn il quale - dopo lo scioglimento della medesima - sarà protagonista di una carriera solista di tutto rispetto all’interno del circuito rock alternativo internazionale.

    Although Steve Wynn voice in "The Days Of Wine & Roses" seems too much to Jeffrey Lee Pierce by The Gun Club, expecially in the title track... Anyway the album is great, just a bit overrated by some critics.

    @Peggy_Flew John Cale was in a project called Theatre of Eternal Music in the 60s, which was sometimes also called The Dream Syndicate. They did name this band after that 60s project so that's a connection but John Cale was never involved with this band.

    I love the additional tracks on the Days of Wine and Roses reissue! They have a slightly more lo-fi feel to them, which I think fits them really well.

    My favorite radio station of all time (KUKQ) used to play "I Have Faith" all the time and that song brings back many great memories. I miss that song :(

    Being recognized is not the contrary to being underrated. To be underrated is to be under-appreciated by those who can recognize the band. The set of people listening to the band may be very small or very large. Thus a band can be both underrated and "VERY recognized."
