Considered in itself, this is probably one of the least interesting tracks on the album--but it's kinda crucial in context. It seems like a transitional track--marking the change from punk to the Adverts' take on post-punk. If you missed the statement of purpose amidst all the chaos and grandeur of "Cast of Thousands," here's a simpler song that reveals what they're aiming for. The opening guitar riff gives way to keyboards, the bass is cranked way up in the mix, and the snarling punk shouting is replaced an actual attempt at singing. Still, the song retains some important trappings of punk: it's uptempo, retains a relatively simple verse-chorus-verse structure, and its lyrics are a fairly straightforward anti-consumerist admonition. However, the ambiguity in the meaning of the chorus ("Pretty soon you'll be thinking like the Adverts/Spouting out the same words") does suggest some knowing irony about their own message (after all, they're also selling you something).

One of the best of the first wave British punk acts...sadly under-rated.
