Mixtape Project Number One "Dub + Progress"

This is a dub playlist I have devised using as much variety between the styles and influences as I can think of. Dub often gets a bad rep for being "samey" and "repetitive" which I will admit due to it's sim plistic riffs and beats it occasionally can be, but then again so can many other genre's too! So this laylists mission is to show dub in it's many alternative forms, influences and styles from it's roots all the way to contemporary times!

There now follows a few thoughts and short history lessons on each of the tracks and artist featured in the playlist, feel free to ask me about anyone of them! Or you could just follow the links ;)

Also occasionally this website has a tendency to crash during songs, if it does just refresh the page and it should be fine!

Uno se aburre un dia enfrente al PC, se da de alta en una página de internet y no imagina las consecuencias de lo que está haciendo ...

Protection fue el primer album de trip que me compré original, hace como unos 10 años, me quedé tan contento que luego vinieron el resto (Blue Lines, Mezzanine y 100th Window).

Un dia en Madrid, le dije a alguien que me encantaba Massive Attack y me dijo que había otro grupo muy bueno, Portishead y me dejó algo de música para escuchar a ver que tal. Feliz, muy feliz ...

Luego conocí a NajwaJean y su No Blood me pareció sublime y ahí me quedé estancado durante muuuuuchooo tiempo (debe de ser por esto que a los discos originales que tengo solo les queda el papel jeje). Es realmente una lástima la bazofia comercial a la que somos sometidos y que buenos artistas sigan estando en el cuarto oscuro.

Con internet la cosa fue mejorando, y aparecieron en mi colección Hooverphonic, Lamb, Tricky o Morcheeba.

30000万曲ねぇ…

気づけば30000曲突破していた。
4ヶ月で10000曲ってペースか。一日だと80曲くらいのペース？
まあ、家で流しっぱなしにしてりゃそれくらいになるか。
iTuneで再生したまま寝ちゃったりしてるし。

ついに総合順位で中島みゆきの牙城がSilent Poetsに崩されてしまった。たしかに最近は中島みゆき聴いてないし。

この半年くらいはThe HerbaliserとかAmmoncontactとかNnja Tune関連をよく聴いたかな。
hip hopだとThe OpusとかM.I.A.とか。

関係ないけど今週末8日にagehaにHardfloorが来るね。久々に行こうかな。Tanaka Fumiyaも回すし。hardfloorは2年前くらいに出したアルバムが、シカゴノリで良かった。でも混むんだろなぁ。

再生20000曲突破

と書いてみたわイイけど、ちょっと前の話しなんだよね。

まあ、家でつねに音楽流しっぱなしにしてりゃ、それくらいいくわな。

んで、このさいなんで、俺は何の曲を一番聴いてんのかなぁとか思って、overall chartのtruckを見ていたんだが…

まあ中島みゆきが一番で、この1～3位(最後の女神、ヘッドライト・テールライト、御機嫌如何)はたしかによく聴いたなぁ。

んで、しばらくはまあ納得がいくランキングなんだが…。
Deep Forestの"Sweet Lullaby"とかね。激、名曲ですな。リミックスも原曲も両方良いよ。
Groove Armadaは"At The River (English Riviera Mix)"。たしかにアホみたいに聴いたね。原曲もかなりヤバいですがね。最近はこれよりも"I See You Baby (Futureshock Main Shake)"が好みかな。かなりDOPEなハウスで気持ちいいです。
LFOは"Goodnight Vienna"か…。俺は病んでるんだろうか？いまさらだけど…。

Silent Poetsで一番聴いてるのがThis is Not an Instrumental featuring Jessica Care Mooreだったとわ。以外な結果。Talk Is Toyとかがくると思っていたのに。iTune見ると、アルバムFirm Roots Remixに入ってる"Stowing Air (Fila Brazillia Remix)"が一番なんだがね。

DJ Vadimも順当に"It's On"がランクインしてるけど、"Variations In USSR (Silent Poets Mix)"が入っててもよかった気がするなぁ。

Shpongleは"Divine Moments of Truth"、Drum ClubのFollow the Sun、Mr. Scruffの"Get a Move On"、DJ Shadowの"Midnight In A Perfect…

半年チャートで、ついに一位が変わりました！
デゲデ～ン！中島みゆきに代わってSilent Poetsになりました。
本人達はどう思うんだろうか…。
しかも3位は渡辺美里だしねっ！

Review: Coldcut - Sound Mirrors

Eight years between albums is a long time, even if you are running one of the consistently best and most innovative labels in the world. Coldcut, cut-up music pioneers and founders of the Ninja Tune label, last put out Let Us Play in late 1997. That was a great record and was single-handedly responsible for pulling me into the world of Ninja Tune and the trip-hop underground of the late '90's. One could even say that record was responsible for the formation of Fidgital in 1999.

So, after all this time, a few singles, remixes, amazing audio-visual tours, Coldcut are back with a new full-length. Sound Mirrors dropped in Canada today, and I was quick to pick up my stylish die-cut packaging.

The album begins underwhelmingly, with the Zero 7-flavoured trip pop of Man in a Garage, featuring John Matthias on vocals. Uh-oh. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but hardly what we waited 8 years for! Don't worry, though, the vinyl cut-ups at the end of the track are sign of things to come: This record gets better as it goes. …
