    Sigur Rós в Б1, 27.08.07

  • Sigur Rós - Takk... (2005)

  • Gig review: Sigur Rós at Brixton Academy, 9th November 2005

Wed 9 Nov – Sigur Ros

Okay, yes, I know, it was nearly two years ago. But I remember it so vividly and listening to Takk has put me in a very Sigur Rós-y mood. So here goes.

Me and my friend Matt, known as Anakino on Last.fm, having been astounded by our first live encounter with Sigur Rós in July 2005 at Somerset House, decided to see them twice in their Autumn 2005 tour of the UK.

Sure, we'd have to go about 400 miles in total on trains and spend nearly £100 each to do it, but for some bands, you just have to really, don't you?

We got to Brixton, we thought, in plenty of time to grab a bite to eat and head to the venue, and be quite near the front of the queue. We were wrong. The queue was all the way down the road and around the corner by the time we got there. Rookie error.

Eventually we made it into the venue, which I'd been to a few times before, and got into the main room. We were about halfway back. For those of you who know the venue, you'll know there's a second set of railings about halfway back…
  • Sigur Ros, Amina @ The Tivoli, April 15, 2006

    Apr 24 2006, 12:40 di Dsthenes

To watch Icelandic quartet Amina huddled around a table tapping out the most intricate tune on a six or eight office reception bells is to fall in love with them and their sound.

The near-sellout crowd packed into the Tivoli tonight listens and gazes on, entranced. Not only are their quirky, avant-garde tunes completely disarming, their virtuoso ability to wring the most delicate sounds from the most ordinary household items defies belief. Often each girl has only a tiny part — just a few notes — but the complexities of the arrangement and the flawless execution inspire a sense of wonder. Is it music or art? The tune trills, soars and cascades. It’s birdsong. It’s gossamer floating on a soft breeze. It’s a waterfall of pure sound. It’s all these things and more.

A collective chuckle runs through the crowd as one girl pulls out a handheld Casio keyboard no longer than her forearm. Many obviously recall the hilarious belching sounds the instrument emitted last year during their final song. …
  • Sigur Rós - Birmingham Carling Academy

    Nov 15 2005, 0:47 di Gilaventi

First off, the Carling Academy situated in Birmingham is a dive

Second off, I got halfway through writing this and the darned thing went back when I hit backspace (what the fuck causes that?)

Third off, Sigur Rós were pretty good. They missed out some songs I would have liked to have heard, most notably Svefn-g-englar and Hjartað hamast (bamm bamm bamm), but overall, a good performance. Their support band and string players, Amina, were interesting... all their stuff, except for the last song they played which was more electronic than the others, sounded nearly the same.

Setlist (the songs I'm not entirely sure I've got right are suffixed with a ~... I can recognise the songs, but not put a name to them in some cases. I was standing there for an hour thinking the fourth song I heard was Mílanó, then I thought I heard Mílanó later on :S... and now I find that they didn't play it at all :P):

    1. Takk...
    2. Glósóli
    3. Ný batterí
    4. Sé Lest
    5. Sæglópur
    6. Untitled 4
