– Acid (1974)
I’ve heard quite a few continental European bands that I would place in the same category as this group from Austira: talented musicians without material to match their skills. Many of these bands are now available on CD courtesy of the Garden of Delights label (Shiver
, and so on). Acid plays hard rock 70s style with screaming guitar and blazing Hammond organ, so some comparisons to Deep Purple
, Uriah Heep
, and Grand Funk Railroad
are in order, but as I said, the material is substandard. “After Midnight”, “Hard Rockin’ Band”, “Midnight Queen” and “Like a Rolling Stone” are not promising titles, and there are no surprises here. Even a Mellotron can’t make up for the stupid lyrics. How about this, the opening of “Midnight Queen”:
Now that the show is over
Got to find someone with whom to spend my time.
I look at many people
Till I find a girl who really looks so fine
I take her by the hand
Tell her to be knowin’ (not sure of this word)
Ask her to be just mine for tonight.
