Apr 10 2011, 18:47 di miotailtmilidhA slightly later playlist this week, but I hadn't forgotten. This week it is folking amazing, with a mixture of German and English folk, hardcore, prog rock, new age and industrial. It's hopefully a little more chilled out than recent weeks. So sit back, turn it up, and enjoy the great sunshine (well I know that's what I'll be doing).

Gen 1 2011, 22:40 di spidrwegianHere's my Top 40 most played albums from 2010. This list is slightly skewed because any album with many short tracks will attract more plays than those with fewer and longer tracks.

Unbelievable, we're looking at the shortlist for next year's Mercury Music Prize already. We're only half way through this one.
The xx will probably walk it and it does look like they are the favourites to win. All the albums on the list are strong, though some are better than others. Paul Weller's Wake Up the Nation for instance, is one of his best and brilliantly crafted. Equal to him are I Am Kloot and their perfection, Sky At Night. In the same league is Corinne Bailey Rae with The Sea.
The debuts are good but I think it would be a shame to award prizes for potential not yet realised, or for being jury favourites, over masterpieces. So, as much as I love Laura Marling and my reco this week, Villagers, I don't think they're there yet.
Giu 28 2010, 14:47 di Babs_05The idea is for a journal for every month listing new albums I listen to and what I think so that when I review the year's music in December, I will have a handy reminder. I will add to this as the month goes on. Suggestions welcome.

Released months ago in the States, I had to wait for the UK release before I could hear it. Incredible buzz around this album. Couldn't wait to hear it. And when I did, my first reaction was that of disappointment. Stayed with it and after a few songs, really got into it. Look forward to getting to know it better. My favourite - Pleasure Sighs - for its Cocteau Twins dreaminess and shimmering guitars.
