I adore this, but it also makes me want to cry for Ritchie. He had a lot of great demos in the works when he died, and it makes me wonder just how many amazing tunes we missed out on--as well as all the years the guy missed out on.

I used to listen to this song on the loudest volume as a kid when I was out bicyklin down the steep road and leves wiped my face as I flew by in what felt like hundred kilometers per hour. I felt immortal, and I loved it.

La Bamba is a classic example of the Son Jarocho musical style which originated in the Mexican state of Veracruz and combines Spanish, indigenous, and African musical elements. The song is typically played on one or two arpas jarochas (harps) along with guitar relatives the jarana jarocha and the requinto jarocho http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Bamba_%28song%29

What would have been of Ritchie Valens if still alive? A great classic regardless the years that have gone by. Viva La Bamba!!
