Perfect Albums
Mar 28 2010, 23:30 di specx2
I don't intend this list to be exhaustive, exclusionary, or static; on the contrary, I hope this list continues to grow over time. This is a list of the albums that I think are 'perfect'. Usually, what I consider perfect is an album in which I love EVERY single song on the album, and any song on the album stands up on its own as great. If even one song gets old or doesn't impress me, then the album won't make this list, or will be removed from the list. It's quite simple. So, here they are alphabetically:
Arctic Monkeys- Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
AC/DC- Black Ice
Beastie Boys- The Mix-Up
The Beatles- Abbey Road
The Beatles- Magical Mystery Tour
The Beatles- Rubber Soul
The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The Black Keys- Rubber Factory
The Black Keys- El Camino
Bob Marley & The Wailers- Rastaman Vibration
Boston- Boston
Cake- Comfort Eagle
Cake- Pressure Chief
Cake- Prolonging the Magic

Georgia Anne Muldrow - Olesi: Fragments Of An Earth
Rating: 1/5 Kept: 0%
Got this album from a list of female emcees – she raps as Pattie Blingh, apparently, so I checked her other stuff out because I found it first. UGH. Like, the more dippy R&B spiritualist aspects of Lauryn Hill meets the more off-key moments of Nina Simone meets experimental jazz. Obviously, this is someone, somewhere's thing, because someone signed her. But ugh. Good thing I got it cheap.
Lupe Fiasco – The Cool
Rating:3.2 /5 Kept: 100%
I hesitated before buying this, because The Cool was one of the few tracks off Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor that I disliked; it's about a zombie, which, YUCK (If you don't mind zombies, though, it sounds great). And Lupe talks in interviews about how this is a concept album about that character, and I was imagining a whole zombie album, and just, no. But even knowing what it was about, it wasn't too overt (thanks for the reassurance, illya23!) and I really enjoyed a lot of it. … -

Reel Old Times and Big Fish

Tue 15 Jan – Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto
I have not scrobbled a single Reel Big Fish track since I joined last.fm. In fact, I have definitly not played a single Reel Big Fish track in the past five years (following storage of the majority of my cd collection), and probably not more than twice in the past eight years.
Yet, if last.fm was around in 1996, Reel Big Fish might still make my overall artists chart. Although I always prefered Arizona locals like Warsaw Poland Bros. and, uh... the names of the others slip my mind... my brief ska phase started with Reel Big Fish.
I saw Reel Big Fish for the first time circa 1995-1996 at the Nile in Mesa, Arizona. I picked up Turn The Radio Off without hesitation the next time I was at Zia (remeber the time we bought albums at cool little independent music stores). I saw them a second time in Tempe not long after. Now, more than a decade later, I couldn't help myself when I saw that they were still around and playing in Paris.

Xmas was good to me
Gen 13 2008, 8:10 di YameteKudasai
I ended up not only getting some Itunes gift cards but also got a few good finds at a half price books.
I always find it harder to spend gift money than what I earn for some reason. Perhaps it seems like it has more value since it was given out of kindness and not because you did something to get it.
Anyway so far the things I ended up picking up off Itunes are.
Dumb Luck - I have always liked their style of digital noise and soft vocals and this album did not let me down. I think my favorite track off the album so far is Rock My Boat. It has really nice slow distorted beats with a soft guitar overlay and the sweet vocals of Mia Doi Todd
The Else - I read the reviews of this before I got it just because I wondered what others thought. Every TMBG album is a sure buy for me. Lots of people said that this is their best album in a long time but I think I liked The Spine more. However it does have some really great songs. My favorite being The Cap'm.
