    Unbelievable album, what an emotional tour de force. From the alienation of Drive and the rage of Ignoreland to the reckoning of Nightswimming and the tear-stained hope of Find the River, every song a classic. The best of the stellar run of albums REM had from 1991 to 1996.

    R.E.M. are the best example of a band I can think of who are just as good here as on their earlier albums, after that "maturing" phase that takes so many lesser bands into dull, formulaic territory.

    best album of the 90s (with In Aeroplane over the Sea) and one of the best records in music history! Unbelievably perfect!!! Especially if you consider that it has been released after mediocore Green and Out of Time and before fine but not so great Monster. Miracle!

    The album that introduced REM to me. I keep thinking these are older guys than me, but when they made it they were thirty-somethings wrinting classic songs with the depth of a full life experience. These songs are a personal viewport into days of the 90's as a teen, feelings, moods, mental images come back. It was also the only cassette in our car my dad could accept listeinng to from our music. (The others must have been RATM, Nirvana and the likes)

    Well I haven't listen to further albums but for me this one is really beautiful in it's entirety, I even feel ashamed for calling this band boring when I was just starting listening to their albums. Hopefully this album will stay one of my favourite overall for the rest of my life.

    I can't pick a favorite, but this and "Murmur" are clearly watershed moments for R.E.M: "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite" "Man on the Moon" and "Nightswimming" are masterpieces on their own terms, and the sequencing of the last three songs is simply astounding.
