Portugal. The man è una band originaria di Wasilla, Alaska, e che attualmente è stanziata a Portland, in Oregon; e formata dai membri della band Anatomy of the Ghost. Il gruppo è stato messo sotto contratto e lanciato dalla Fearless Records. Hanno rilasciato il loro terzo e ultimo album Censored Colors questo settembre (2008) sotto la loro label di registrazione indipendente Approaching AIRballoons.
Lo stile della band è molto variegato e ha le sue radici nell’indie rock ma i brani hanno anche influenze soul, blues e folk. A volte la base ritmica è creata attraverso l’utilizzo di drum machines e/o synth loops , altre grazie ai più tradizionali strumenti del genere (rock): basso e batteria acustica. Frequente l’utilizzo di tastiere.

Uh, if you want me to be honest, I love both MGMT and PTM and I've personally listened to every single one of PTM's albums.. They only really sound like MGMT in "In the Mountain, In the Cloud" and slightly in "American Ghetto." I don't see why there's a big argument over this, though.
