I think the book is going on a world tour. After two Indian classical albums, here’s a Brasilian group. To be honest, I never heard of Os Mutantes before. Shame on me! Shame on me twice! This is fantastic music.
Well, I could say (as many others do) this music is something more exciting than the slower bossa nova music, but that’s a strange comparison, for this is just a completely different style.
Actually, it’s a completely different style from anything else I have heard before. It is a very original mixture of different things. Of all the albums heard until now in the list, it reminds most of Sabu’s Palo Congo, because it has the same primal sound and the same exciting rhythms. But that’s not all, Os Mutantes add Western guitars + Beatles sounds and especially a lot of weirdness to it all (it is after all psychedelic Brasilian music) and sometimes they even switch to the French chanson. …
