I never make it past Side 1 for some reason. It's a damn good Side 1 though.

This has to be the most fucked up album ever. One moment he's singing about Come on baby let's go downtown and then he's depressed as fuck.

I find it hard to warm up to Borrowed Tune (though I understand the need for a lull before the Downtown storm) and Lookout Joe being on this record, since the actual S.I.R. sessions stuff is basically the best music ever made. Bring on the Briggs cut!

Brutally honest. Stunning from start to finish

Simultaneously the loneliest & the most life-affirming album I've heard... quite possibly the most beautiful, too; time will tell, as it's new to me yet. On first listen, though, it sounded like I'd been waiting to hear just this album all my life.

A tragically under-appreciated record. Put down Harvest and put this on!

Along with Fun House, the best album of the 70s.

A million words of a shout on can't do justice to this album. A sublime, chilling stunner of a masterpiece. The true dark soul of the night shines all around this piece of art, while the ghosts of those lost hover around its edges.

It's not depressing but it's certainly mournful and it's actually quite comforting. It's the perfect embodiment of that melancholy, mildly self-destructive way of living that follows the untimely death of a friend or relative.
