It's been a pretty wicked year for music so far and we're only three months in. I'm still chasing my tail trying to find time to listen to all these gems. Here are a few that stand out so far, plus a few random thoughts below.

* Unknown Mortal Orchestra - II
I just couldn't duck the buzz of this release as it received generally positive acclaim from the various parties I tend to trust when it comes to music. "So Good At Being In Trouble" has been on constant rotation at my place since the day I first heard it on JJJ. It's psychedelic, it's funky and damn tasty!

I found myself completely enthralled with the first 6 tracks here, just in a trance of total goodness. A fine example of the downtempo/trip-hop sounds I so desperately crave. I do think he needs to change it up a little though…

lets start with the most shocking thing so far. . . .

whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, what are YOU doing back?!?!
I don't remember when Kev said this stuff was recorded. He might not even remember. (days spent online gaming can be a blur). He teased this record for 2 months, and the majority of us said "yeah, alright, sure. new album. okay.". and then on Feburary 2nd, the musical equivalent of the launch of Diablo III happened. . . . . but you already know that. You were there. Look, my expectations were LOW (because I'm that way about everything now). I thought there was gonna be some kind of 180 like what Slowlive did on their final record. But no, they continued right where they left off. the first 3 songs on the record are all very similar to "i only said". The 4th track "is this and yes" sounds like a Tyler the Creator outtake. I'm serious. It sounds like the synth parts of "radical" stretched out to 5 minutes. …
