I remember back in 2001 when it first came out it got mixed reviews (to put it politely) and I didn't understand why. I still don't understand why it gets such a bad time now but each to their own. I'd put it on a par with Everything Must Go, but it's not up to the standard of TIMTTMY for me.

Loved this album back then and still love it to this day. Very underrated indeed. Up there with my favourites but not quite in the same league as their first three albums.

Manic Street Preachers definitely have some underrated material but this album is simply very mediocre. It has some of their most interesting melodies but the deliberately muted production doesn't work at all, especially on the more aggressive tracks...

Well, maybe it's better to listen to individual songs. But this goes for most albums like this. I think it's kind of underappreciated.

Really like the comparison to "Sandinista." Know Your Enemy is a very eclectic album, but if any of it's songs come up on shuffle, I rarely skip it. Miss Europa Disco Dancer is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I really enjoy the whole album.

One of the things i really like about this is it's disjointed nature, it just comes across very organic. It's like the Manics' 'Sandinista (The Clash). Sure, it could be argued that like 'Sandinista', 'Know Your Enemy' could have been made into a pretty classic album if it had been trimmed. But, every band should have an album like this in their catalogue i think, if only just to stir things up a bit. In the end it is about what the band wants to do regardless of who is listening and i get the feeling that they wanted to just let loose. You can understand why with the heavy mood of 'This Is My Truth..' and the emotional and musical weight of 'Everything Must Go'. They're ALL great :D

Really good album, maybe not cohesive but still great. It has a really great guitar sound.

When this shines, it REALLY shines. When this sucks, it REALLY sucks. I wish I could love it more than I do but I'm getting there. Also, what frustrates me even more is that it was a fantastic era for b-sides so the shit ones could be replaced with the likes of "Fear of Motion" and "Groundhog Days" to create something really magnificent. However, as it stands, it's within the lower echelons of my Manics albums. I'm tempted to raise it above EMG though.

even though this album is a little all over the place i still think it's better than EMG & TIMTTMY, probably even put together *prepares to duck*

It's not much of an album.... It's a, eh, collection of very good songs that don't really belong together all that much. I love it, though. It's underrated. No doubt about it.

My mate said this was their worst album back in secondary school. Crazy talk, it's on a par with Everything Must Go and only just behind Holy Bible. Painfully underrated!
