Industrial Nation (Free Industrial Crossover Compilations)
Ott 14 2012, 18:09 di DetoxScission
As with my previous creations for different genres ('While You Were Sleeping' & 'For Funerals To Come'), this set of compilations will be found on the main blogspot page where I keep every set. I've only completed one, 12 track set thus far, but there will definitely be a good amount more. I try to stray away from singles or hits and go with songs that I really, truly enjoy... this isn't some weak set of compilations that are just random track choices (And believe me, i've seen a lot of those). For anyone thinking that i'm doing this for the wrong reasons, you are incorrect. I'm a fan and i'm trying to deliver to possible fans of the style. I make zero money from any of this and i'm using up chunks of my time to try and help out bands and musicians who matter to me and who I feel got the rough end of the stick. As well, even though most of the bands in question are no longer part of the active community, it's still worth spreading the name and legacy they left behind. … -

Tuesday Ten: Videos and 30 years of MTV
Ago 23 2011, 21:44 di amodelofcontrol
Another bit of a retrospective this week, as I finally get ’round to covering the fact that MTV turned 30 years old on 01-August. As the NME noted a few months ago, whatever happened to the MTV of old? For all its faults – not least seemingly moving away from what was the whole point in the first place towards reality shows (which it started with The Real World) – MTV did drive the use of the music video. It pushed artists to produce ever more outlandish, expensive and perhaps ridiculously conceited concepts, but crucially also gave some bands exposure that they would never have otherwise had.
And perhaps the tide is turning back after all, with MTV finally making a tentative return to the channel we used to love, with the reappearance of 120 Minutes and Beavis and Butthead, in the US at least. Here’s hoping that MTV remember that those of us in the UK and Europe would love to see their return, too. For those of you wanting to reminisce a bit: just check this awesome site with a full 120 Minutes archive and playlists too.

Tuesday Twenty: My top albums of the 90s part five: 20-1
Apr 27 2010, 19:56 di amodelofcontrol
So after a couple of weeks of work, here's my top twenty albums of the 90s.
There is again a Spotify playlist accompaniment to it, which is this time missing four entries, which with it being the top twenty is a little frustrating...
Previously:
My top albums of the 90s part one: 100-81
My top albums of the 90s part two: 80-61
My top albums of the 90s part three: 60-41
My top albums of the 90s part four: 40-21
20
Type O Negative
October Rust
1996
Gothic, doomy metal dirges that actually have some semblance of an understanding of irony, and are on first name terms with "Mr Tune"? It's a wonder that they got away with this, but really, this album is still bloody marvellous. Even if the cover of Neil Young track Cinamon girl, in retrospect, isn't very good, the rest of it still worth listening to (Note: this was already in my top twenty long before the news broke that Pete Steele had died during April).
19
Velvet Acid Christ
Fun With Knives
1999

Taping songs off the radio in the 90s...
Gen 23 2010, 7:59 di pessimystica
ahhh, the early 90s... b4 cds started to take over, you know you were addicted to waiting until a good song came on the radio in the early 90s & pressed RECORD on that outdated thing called the tape player :-P I might add that i was usually playing Nintendo while listening to these when i prolly should've been doing homework *grin*... &/or (God forbid) riding the darn school bus & listening to my WALKMAN!!! bahaha... Here're some of my favorites (currently on shuffle) that i eventually replaced with mp3s... these songs are still special to me cuz unlike downloading anything at your finger tips these days, you actually got to know individual songs a lot better & grew attached to them. I never grew tired of them, unlike too many overplayed radio singles that (mostly) aren't listed here. This isn't 1 of those "oh yah, i used to really like this song" moments... i still like these songs. It ain't nostalgic if you never left ;-)
