I wouldn't call them a metal band. Yea sure they had a few songs here and there that would qualify as metal but as a band hey were hard rock/prog rock. None the less an awesome band and a really underrated one. Imo they were almost as good as Heep and Purple.

I can understand. It's dark, yes, but metal means a more bludgeoning riffage to me. Anyway, the debut is an unsung classic, Ride in the Sky is a top song and all the rest is extremely good. I'm glad I found this band! Of course, i love both hard rock and metal, especially the '70s variety, but LF are hard rock to me. Being an influence does not mean the genre itself. Black sabbath were influecned by '60s blues band, but they carried the sound further, you cannot call them blues or call their influences metal. Just this way most of '70s hard rock including Lucifer's Friend, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, UFO, Scorpions or Led Zeppelin are precursors to the future metal sound. At least that's my point of view

The debut is actually very much hard rock. Lots of Hammond organ, Led Zeppelin riffs (check Ride in the Sky, it has an Immigrant Song vibe) or the generally Purple/Heep-like instrumental sections. This is classic British-style hard rock, people. And UFO, Budgie or Bloodrock are not metal either. The only metal band in the early '70s was Black Sabbath

  • Sodominion

One of the most obscure band in an era where psychedelic and prog hard rock was on the rise. They are right up there with the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Uriah Heep etc etc.

    They are amazing!

  • hughmanoid

This band was phenomenal. My guess is if they would have gone away from such a controversial name they would have been as big as zep, purple, sabbath, etc. Their name actually doesn't fit their lyrics or music. Oh well, they were incredible.

Have to agree about Banquet. Probably one of the cheesiest albums you`ll ever hear, but still superb. Top,top musicianship,a vocalist who`ll singe your eardrums, almost easy-listening prog, [James Last`s orchestra appears throughout the album]. Music to make you smile...
