  • The Delightful 50 of the 00's (Best Albums 2000-2009)

1 Antony and the Johnsons - The Crying Light
    (2009)
The black-and-white image of legendary Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno that adorns the cover of The Crying Light, the third full-length by Antony and the Johnsons, seems to offer a view of a being enveloped in both ecstasy and agony -- or does it? The songs contained here offer something else: a glimpse of a universe beyond the pale of vision, seen only by the individual experiencing it. Neo-classical underpinnings are entwined lovingly with broken pop songs and secretive after-hours cabaret poems. Check the opener, "Her Eyes Are Underneath the Ground". The piano and cello fall together as one slow dancer, alone in the spotlight, keeping memory as time: "In the garden, with my mother/I stole a flower/With my mother, in her power/I chose a flower/I saw six eyes glistening in my womb/I felt you calling me in the gloom/Rest assured your love is pure.... …

  • My Life According To... LCD soundsystem

    Apr 14 2010, 0:22 di porcelaingoo

Using only song names from ONE ARTIST, cleverly answer these questions. Pass it on to 15 people you like and include me. You can't use the band I used. Try not to repeat a song title. It's a lot harder than you think! Repost as "my life according to (band name)"....i was bored...

    LCD Soundsystem

Are you a male or female:

  • That thingy that I finally got the patience to (try to) write about in English

    Gen 11 2010, 7:35 di mydesperateicon

List your top 10 artists as played on Last.fm:

    1 XTC
    2 Sparks
    3 Devo
    4 LCD Soundsystem
    5 Mansun
    6 Telex
    7 The Dukes Of Stratosphear
    8 Franz Ferdinand
    9 Blur
    10 Marc Moulin

Now answer the questions according to the numbers:

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
    Moskow Diskow! \o/

What is your favourite album of 2?
Geez, that's hard. Definitely is Propaganda, but Indiscreet is so crazy and funny that I listen to it one more frequently I guess. And No.1 In Heaven is a perfect masterpiece as well. AAAAHHH, I can't decide!

What is your favourite lyric that 5 has sung?
Favourite lyric by dear Paul Draper? I choose Legacy.

How many times have you seen 4 live?
As a band, one. And it was AMAZING.
Saw James Murphy DJ'ing once too, so overall I saw him twice. And he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

What is your favourite song by 7?
Aww the mighty Dukes... My Love Explodes is pure joy! And The Mole from the Ministry is also special 'cause it was the first song I ever heard by them. *_*

  • Happy Noise Monday at UrBANGUILD, 1/28/08

    Gen 30 2008, 4:29 di djgizmoe

Well, my big DJ night at UrBANGUILD finally arrived, and all said, it went pretty well. I got their really early, and most of Oh My Cow! (Hide from Ultra Bide, Donald the Nut from Three Day Stubble and Reo from ULTRA Jr) were doing their soundcheck. After I set up my stuff at the DJ table (man that mixer is crap...), we waited for people to start filtering in.

Around 7, things got underway. I started a little improv looping on my DS which amused the crowd a bit, and then I slowly mixed in some Reiko Ike and noise and we were moving. I ended up playing between each set, and I had a 30 minute DJ time where I played some tracks I'd mashed up before hand with ACID. The Game Boy geeks dug my Covox meets Tenchi Muyo! mega-mix, Hide blushed (figuratively) when I played some of his songs mixed with Doddodo and Carl Stalling and the whole crowd really got behind my Kill the Poor/Hecate/Get Innocuous! mash-up. I had to end things about three minutes earlier than I'd hoped (missing out on my grand finale meltdown), but shit happens.

  • My Top 10 Favorite Albums of 2007... and much, much more!!

    Dic 31 2007, 5:54 di PayToCum

I know, I know. There are literally one to four people out there wanting, nay, yearning to see my lists. Well the time has come! First off, I would like to state for the record these are my favorites and not what I think is the best. Makes it even more painful that Bruce Spingsteen didn't make it. Shucks. Also, I only find the top few "great," while the rest are simply very good... oh, and a lot of lists this year have Lily Allen's Alright, Still; I consider it a 2006 album. Get on your toes journalists!

    Top 10 Records I <3'd in 07:

    10. Big D & The Kids Table - Strictly Rude
Remember ska? That was fun. Some fans don’t like how much of this record doesn’t have the frantic punk pace as previous releases, but it does have things like more sophisticated song writing, better instrumentation... you know, little things like that.
Essential Tracks: Steady Riot, Shining On.

  • Electronica & Me

    Dic 27 2007, 3:00 di Tremulant_

Electronic music has become part of my life in a big way. since hearing artists like Aphex Twin and Justice, I have begun to collect as much music in the genre as possible, and have been inspired by the beats and synths in these disks to make my own music, (under the name Latent Image), heavily influenced by the electronic genre. No other style of music has had an impact on me this profound… And not only is it what I listen to, Electronic is a lifestyle and a whole scene is associated with it.

It is a shame that electronica has become corrupted and is often lumped in with the genres of pop and hip-hop, and has been associated purely with the image of a metro scenester popping pills in a nightclub. Listening to some of the classics of the genre, I find it hard to believe just how diverse it really is.

Here are some examples of the bands which are the reason that I love the style so much.

  • 2007 Recapitulation

    Dic 23 2007, 17:31 di Heliosphaner

It was very hard to choose the best albums of the year. I made Top 50, nevertheless there's no place for artists like Amon Tobin, Chromeo, Animal Collective, Radiohead, Justice or Blonde Redhead.

For some of you low position of Burial and 'out-of-the-chart' of Radiohead could be surprising, but to tell honestly i haven't found 'this something special' on these records.

    So let's start:

    50. Islaja - Ulual Yyy (1)

Yupe, it's almost here... award season. Since I'm impatient by nature, I'm gonna hand out my own awards right now!

Tacks, the Boy Disaster - Oh, Beatrice
(By the way, I heard that release will be soon - spring of 08 soon)

Your debut it's not bad. Get back to me when you make your songs sound less like each other and a lot less like The Walkmen award:
    White Rabbits - Fort Nightly

Every time I hear your songs I wanna start moving around! award (dance edition):

Every time I hear your songs I wanna start moving around! award (rock edition):
    Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam

  • Electric Picnic, Stradbally [Ireland], 31/08/07-02/09/07

    Set 17 2007, 22:29 di citrusmantis

    Fri 31 Aug – Electric Picnic 2007

We set off for the Electric Picnic festival early on Thursday morning. Ryanair's cheapest flight turned out to be relatively painless - we even got a fanfare over the PA on touching down 10 minutes early. We holed up in a cheap Dublin hostel (the actually quite comfortable Four Courts Hostel) and spent the evening in a nice Irish pub. The festival bus left early next morning, and after 2 hours of countryside/sleep we finally arrived.

Electric Picnic was the biggest festival i've been to. From getting our wristbands to the yellow campsite was quite a trek, as was the walk to fetch pre-ordered beer and cider. And that's without figuring in the arena itself. Comprising multiple music tents, a huge main stage, many food stalls, shops and bars, and a huge central 'Body & Soul' area, the arena took most of the weekend to reveal itself to us in its entirety. This was partly due, however, to our relatively limited movements on the Friday night.
