It's been only a couple of days now, since i decided to join last.fm

Gradually it dawned on me and i'm totally hooked, the concept is great and especially the radio stations, they offer some of the best music i have ever and never heard before. It's really taking me back to the old radio days some, the transistor days, or the tuner collecting dust days ever since the tape recorder's been put on hold to let the CD-player take all the glory.

I can't stop listening. I like the random feel of it all and last.fm is certainly an adventure for listeners. Plenty of things to discover and embrace. Stuff and albums i'd forgotten about. Music and artists to appreciate all over again. Or welcome wholeheartedly. Lovely, just lovely!

Oh yes, as an editor (CD reviews) and infrequent contributor for www.allaboutjazz.com this last.fm might come in very handy as well.

Jazz can inspire some fantastic arguments sometimes. When I presented radio programs in the 1990s and before that, when I was something of a reasonable musician, I personally witnessed some amazing and fantastic explosions of vile behavior and language from supposedly the most supine and gentle of souls.

Kurt Elling is one Jazz artist that seems to bring out the Jazz police in droves. One of the most inventive and tonally precise of jazz vocalists of our time, taking inspiration from all facets of the music, Kurt since 1995 has blazed an amazing trail in music, and has blunted other forms of this music, making there art minor by comparison. If Kurt is the sun, others can not even attain the glory of the moon

Try telling that to a purist who won't go past Micheal Murphy and Ella Fitzgerald, having mentioned Ella, it is likely that the jazz police would find her too commercial.

Running through album titles alphabetically is something of an obsession for me this year…

Man, has Kurt Elling always been this soulful and I'm just noticing, or is his latest CD, Nightmoves, really that good of a production?

I mean, from the title track, Kurt's crooning has got me in a warm embrace. I remember hearing him sing straight ahead jazz and scating before, but I don't remember being moved my his voice quite like this. His vocal seems to have an equal mix of classic jazz and classic r&b sensibility that just works on this album.

I love the way the drums percolate behind his beckoning in the song, "Change Partners". The arrangement of The Guess Who's "Undun" is worth the price of the downloads alone.

Good stuff, man. Good stuff.
