2:33 into this vaguely reminds me of the middle of Cygnus Vismund Cygnus by Mars Volta. woah [2] My exact thought! I can definitely hear some TMV in this

Postmortem62388: Yep. They were clearly inspired by the middle part of the song. And Steven Wilson was inspired by TMV's track and recorded track No Twilight Within The Courts Of The Sun.

Absolutely astounding, amazing work, esp. 7:35. I still remember the LP artwork (a long-term borrow from a friend's father)... very minimal, blurred splotches of greens, reds, and yellows against a thick parchment/cream. I always get the feeling of being transported to another universe: feudal lords and hardships, with Fripp somehow as a not-quite-benificent John the Baptist-esque precursor to some darker, more dangerous future. Especially with the following track, 'The Letters.' So eerie... Mischief and intrigue intersect to form crucial apotheosis, or a semblance of the end, for ill or good. And the screaming sax in The Letters, forming messages and words slightly below the realm of perceived thought, seems to imply that the opening lyric ("with quill and silver knife") references language and poetry as ultimate power, mortal or otherwise. Follow the crescendo to the lyric, "Impaled on nails of ice," and then end the side a appella... epic album.

If you listen with an open heart, you're instantly transported onto a cold, wet deck of a rusty steamer with an angry ocean threatening to come aboard

The crazy saxophones remind me of early Zappa.
