When I was a kid I grew up in a house on a hill
Not the top, not the bottom, but the middle
And I still remember where I cracked my head
In the vacant lot, there's a row of tiny houses there now

This song captures my affection even though at first I was turned off by the tempo. This is exactly why it is such a great song. It moved me out of my musical comfort zone and made me like something I normally wouldn’t be that fond of. It’s great when horizons are broadened in pleasant ways. The words paint brilliant pictures of the troubles and contentment of youth. Take these lyrics for example, “the stories that the ceiling told through the pictures in the grains and the pine wood boards.” Pure genius. It resonates with me, though I grew up with a spackled ceiling. Children do see more in everything, and Pyke brings that out through the song. The profound simplicity of both the lyrics and the music is refreshing and catchy. Excellent piece.
