Son of a Preacher Man was never recorded by Janis Joplin. Not in the studio, not live, now anywhere. I doubt she would even have hummed along to it. Why don't you remove this error from your site. It perpetuates an Internet and urban legend that is simply not true. Janis would roll over in her grave if she knew.. HOW DO YOU KNOW? HAVE YOU TALKED TO HER LATELY?
Janis Joplin singing son of a preacher man exists, but where is the mp3 or video? It is played on our local radio station and it's definitely not Aretha and it's not Dusty. They announce it as Janis. I've tried contacting the radio station but I have not been able to get through the phone lines or get a response via email.
I want the mp3, GIVE IT TOO ME!!!!!
Tons of people have covered this song actually, Janis Joplin being one of them. The song was originally wrote for Aretha Franklin and she turned it down, it was then picked up by Dusty Springfield, only after it was popular did Franklin sing it as well. But, as I said, many many people have done a cover of this song, including Janis Joplin.
It's interesting how people have listened to this song 19000 times when I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist.
I scoured the internet, just to be sure, and in all the cases I found, it was a Dusty Springfield recording tagged as being Janis Joplin.
