Last.fm Presents: Good Old War Live in Studio

Good Old War was started by former Days Away members Keith Goodwin and Tim Arnold along with former Unlikely Cowboymember Dan Schwartz. They spent time as the studio & touring band for Anthony Green (Circa Survive / Saosin) and the logical next step was to get serious as a three-piece. They already knew the musical direction would be acoustic driven with the vocals being a major part of the sound. The three-part harmonies would fall into place as a “happy accident”.
The third Good Old War album Come Back As Rain was produced and engineered by Jason Cupp. It was recorded in Omaha, NE at Another Recording Company Studios. In the five weeks Good Old War spent there, 30 songs were recorded and eleven made it onto the album. Watch the guys in performance at our studio in NYC as they do three songs from the new record as well as a fan favorite from the debut album of 2008.

First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one.

My top 30 albums of 2010 (including a mix)
Gen 4 2011, 21:24 di heatherc
1. Otis Gibbs - Joe Hill's Ashes
http://onechord.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/otisgibbs.jpg?w=300&h=300
An Americana artist who mixes the political and personal. This is his fourth album (not including his Christmas album) and he becomes a better lyricist with every release. With the last album he stepped up the production and it’s continued to this one. His voice manages to be uniquely smooth and rough at the same time.
2. Codeine Velvet Club - Codeine Velvet Club
http://hangout.altsounds.com/geek/gars/images/1/2/4/7/5/codeine-velvet-club.jpg
A project started by Jon Fratelli of The Fratellis, a Scottish rock band, who joined forces with Scottish cabaret singer Lou Hickey. The results were fantastic. Also the first in a recurring theme for me this year -- lots of guy/girl harmonies and trading of lead vocals. Unfortunately, this band has already split up, with the two artists working on their own projects now.
3. James - The Morning After The Night Before

Best of 2010!
Gen 4 2011, 9:19 di sidekicksuicide
It's a little bit late, but I had to let 2010 completely come to an end. There were some great records I was just hearing as the new year rolled in.
BEST ALBUMS
10. The Hold Steady - Heaven Is Whenever
http://reviewstalker.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/the-hold-steady-heaven-is-whenever.jpg
I just started to get into The Hold Steady last year, so I don't have the same long history with the band as some people. A lot of people criticized this album for not having the sparkle of their last couple, but it's a solid, fun rock record. It was summery in the summer, but has kept it's relevancy into the winter. The loss of Franz Nicolay gives the band fewer over-zealous background vocals and piano parts, but Tad Kubler's guitar parts have a chance to shine. Lyrically, Heaven Is Whenever doesn't pack much punch, but the fun music makes it a solid Hold Steady release.
9. The National - High Violet
