But the auditorium had great acoustics, it was nice to hear the band in a big room again, after seeing them in what was basically a crypt in Boro last year.
Support was PJ Wright, of The Dylan Project fame who sang a small selection of songs, all of which were good, especially Johnny England which was a look at the history of the 20th Century, and made all the more poignent/unsettling by linking it to the children's song of the same name. Ric dueted with him for an instrumental before they were joined by the remaining Fairporters for the last song.
Fairport kicked off with Sir Patrick Spens followed by Wait for the Tide to Come In. The band are really rocking much more in recent times, (they went very acoustic and comfy when Chris joined, which I obviously didn't mind, but their live sound is best when they put some weight behind…
