Gli Explosions in the Sky sono un gruppo post-rock strumentale formatosi nel 1999 a Austin, in Texas.
Il loro sound si rifà alle sonorità più “canoniche” del genere, quali quelle dei Mogwai e dei Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Il loro primo approccio al mondo discografico risale al 2000 con l’album autoprodotto How Strange, Innocence stampato in sole 300 copie. Dopo la firma con la Temporary Residence viene pubblicato Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die / Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever. Nel 2003 la band registra The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place col quale balza agli onori della critica e del pubblico. Dopo un tour mondiale il gruppo partecipa anche alla colonna sonora del film Friday Night Lights. Nel 2005 viene ristampato How Strange, Innocence.
Nel 2007 esce All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone, seguito da Take Care, Take Care, Take Care (2011) - entrambi per la Temporary Residence Limited.

I think the highlights for me were Postcard from 1952 and The Birth and Death of the Day.
