How the f**k has it taken me 4 years to muster up the effort to listen to this? I'm failing in my old age.

Listening to 'One Day Like This' for the first time from start to finish is one of my happiest and absorbing moments when listening to music. Great album.

Awesome album (except the first track - what's with the claxon?!). 'The loneliness of a tower crane driver' is currently my fav song of all time. Mirrorball has also key-noted itself into my life in a major major way. And the rest are just wicked in their own right. Can't recommend this album highly enough really.

I love this album because it's the only one I can play a thousand times in a row (and I most definitely do) and not hear a single complaint from whoever is with me, now matter what their musical tastes are.

The Charts are not a judge on what is good in the music scene, it is usually full of manufactured pop rubbish that has been aimed at teenage girls because they will go out and buy rubbish! This is an amazing album and Elbow are fully deserving of their Mercury Prize. :)

"What a ridiculously underrated album. Where is the hype for these guys?" I trust this displays a dry sense of humour? Mercury Music Winners and THE band of 2009... f you mean chart success then f#ck it - the charts only consist of plastic music for the masses. Elbow are EXACTLY where they should be.

Wonderful band. The piano middle eight (if that's the right terminology!) on 'Mirrorball' swept me away somewhere when I first heard it, and I still haven't come back yet.

Elbow are one of the greatest and innovative band of the last ten years, still underrated by crytics and espacially by the mass, who prefer "cool" moneymakers. They are magnificient musicians, to me.

Amazing album (though I love Cast of Thousands and Leaders of the Free World more), but the album art does my head in. If you try to imagine the cube as an entrance into a mall (the brick shape), the reversed perspective of the cube's lines causes brain damage.

Guy's voice reminds me of Peter Gabriel. Elbow have their own beautiful sound to go with it, too. Now I know what to do with my HMV gift card...

A genuine masterpiece. One of the best albums of this decade, I can't fault it. The best aspect though is the mastering, the fact that it's been given a good sized dynamic range. It brings it to life, allows the music room to breathe and by god does it do that. If this album had been butchered at the mastering plant by over compression, it wouldn't have sounded half as good as it does. turnmeup.org - I urge everyone to read this, we need more awareness of how the industry is strangling music at the mastering plant.

This album is pure genius. Elbow recently performed the whole thing live with the BBC Orchestra and the mp3 is up for grabs. Highly recommendable. Just Google it.

I have friends who have given this album a miss because it's too 'mainstream' which is a shame, although they have been around for a long time now this does seem to be their breakthrough album and justifiably so. It's a beautiful record and perhaps even better than their debut which is also a great record.

the way the record's produced is amazing too... this turnmeup.org thing really saves music. every little sound is beautiful and clear. since mtv i had forgotten that a recording could sound like this. yes:)

This album deservedly won the Mercury Prize. Though I'm not a big fan of the band, The Seldom Seen Kid is without a doubt one of the best albums of the year so far... scratch that - it's THE best.
