  • Cursive

    Nov 2 2006, 0:13 di Lucky_Shamrock

Decided to give them a serious listen today, so I'm going down a long line of songs (someone from the quad's got themselves most of the discography). I'll be editing this as I go along.

So far I've listened to half of Eight Teeth to Eat You and Burst and Bloom. The instrumentals of Excerpts From Various Notes Strewn Around the Bedroom of April Connolly, Feb. 24, 1997 were amazing, and I actually had to put down my homework. Burst and Bloom was somewhat okay, but for me the only song that stood out was Fairy Tales Tell Tales, which again had instrumentals that I really enjoyed :]

Loved the energy going into Domestica (so far, my favorite). I'm a big fan of story/concept albums, and there are a couple of pretty good song transitions to boot :)

Eh, I think I'd need to develop a taste for the split with Silver Scooter :/

What was the last concert you attended?
Tilly and the Wall w/ Devin Davis & Brighton, MA.

    How many people were there?
Probably 150ish? I don't actually know, it's a small venue. But it was pretty much filled, and I'm not sure how many people it holds.

What bands have you seen in concert the most, and how many times?
    A Gnarly Swell x7
    Off The Deep End x7
    Catch Fire x5
    The Satirists x3
    BRP x2
    Jukebox Heroes x2
    Jimmy Newquist x2
    Coheed and Cambria x2
    Amber Pacific x2
    Ben Folds x2
    Something to Do x2
    John Ralston x2
    Dashboard Confessional x2
A lot of those are locals, but oh well. And those are all of my repeats, as well. Most were well worth it.

Do you have any set lists? From what bands?
Lots of A Gnarly Swell setlists. And one from an Amber Pacific show. I think I have some others, but I don't even know.

Are there any CDs in close proximity to you? Which ones?
As in next to me or next to my heart? Haha. Assuming you mean the second one...lots.

  • I Disagree with the Commonly Held Sentiment That Cursive Got Better with Time.

    Set 13 2005, 3:25 di not_jason

Despite having once claimed that each Cursive record was better than the one that preceeded it, I wish to officially state that my stance has changed and that I no longer believe that to be true. While Burst and Bloom may have been the band's soaring climax, followed closely by the cello heavy contributions on Eight Teeth to Eat You, I generally believe that their highest quality material was that which fell before Domestica. and that The Ugly Organ was by far their weakest effort.

    Does Cursive even still exist?

Recently, the only two bits of Cursive related news that have come down the wire to me have been that Gretta, their cellist, quit the band (they are not seeking a replacement) and that the band released a B-sides compilation. The latter, falling durring a time of apparent inactivity, always seems to carry rather ominous implications. I do hope they are still a band, as they put on a phenominal live show.
