This one has grabbed me much more strongly than Jane Doe, which was the one people kept recommending to me when I would say that I hadn't gotten really into them despite a couple of attempts to do so. I don't think Jane Doe is a bad album at all and I'll revisit it at some point, but the riffs, filthy mix and especially the drumming on this one work much better for me on first listen. I can now see these guys being a band I might really embrace after thinking they just weren't for me until now.

Jane Doe was the first I liked by them and I think this is WAY better. You Fail Me is also tied with Jane Doe and this just stomps both.

I still need to give YFM some more listens but I'm still really digging this one a lot. Just more up my alley than a couple of the others stylistically, I guess.

Only Jane Doe is above this one. My Unsaid Everything and When Forever Comes Crashing destroy everything.

Aside from the vocals on Jane Doe being arguably more abrasive, I have always considered this to be Converge's least accessible album. Definately a contender for personal favourite. High Cost of Playing God, Love as Arson and Conduit are all crushing.

My favorite album. And comparing it to Petitioning The Empty Sky is pretty hard. This one sounds more metallic, for the most part. Petitioning, however, it pure hardcore. But are stunning, but i'm gonna have to go with this. Petitioning being my second favorite, though.

Comparing the two side by side, the original release sounds fucking horrible compared to the remaster. Leave it to Kurt Ballou to pull off a perfect remastering job.

"if this was remastered with quality production, I would cream my pants, simply at the announcement of it." -- Can't tell if you're joking or not, but it was remastered, and it sounds much better than the original Steve Austin crap. I wonder which version you're listening to...

After Jane Doe, this is my favorite album with them, and sometimes I even listen to this over Jane Doe. The riffs on this album are awesome!

I wouldn't say it is underrated, its just Converge started to change alot after this. The reason why they are so respected is that now they are making albums that don't sound like any other band in existance. I love WFCC, but it is alot more umm...'traditional', shall we say, than what came after it. I think it gets rated fairly for what it is, a great fucking metal/hardcore record. Bands trying to do heavy music in the same vein don't even stack up to this album, Converge are just several steps ahead of anyone.

i got this album YEARS ago, it has verry differant art though. (looks like a gold dead fetus) and only 11 tracks. my metalcore buds keep begging for it. it was 99 cents at FYE.

been listening to this a lot lately, more than Jane Doe. It's totally amazing, so intense, so sick...
