songwriting deteriorated or something. They were never a verse/chorus/verse "song" band to begin with. Nothing after Soon Over Babaluma equals, say, Tago Mago, but I don't feel something has to be exactly as good or better than some of the best music of the decade (Tago Mago -> Soon Over Babaluma) to be worth listening to. Anyway, Monster Movie is good but has a considerably different sound than the next couple of albums. Mooney wasn't as good as Damo Suzuki at laying out and keeping out of the way of the other guys in the band and his voice can be grating. Additionally, there aren't as many moments of "holy shit" instrumentation on this one as there are on the other records; in that respect the music on Soundtracks is an important bridge between this record and the godlike Tago Mago. This is worth hearing and having, though. Check it out.

Can has some good albums beyond the usual "first five" (six if you count Soundtracks as a proper album, which it isn't) school of thinking; Delay 1968, which is basically a full LP recorded with Malcolm Mooney and shelved, is good, Unlimited Edition is a good collection of unreleased stuff, The Peel Sessions are very good, The Lost Tapes and Can Box Music both have a bunch of good material you'll want to hear if you're into this band, and they have proper albums they made after Soon Over Babaluma that are good as well. Landed, Flow Motion and Saw Delight are all worth hearing; Out of Reach is pretty good as well despite Holger quitting before it was made. Basically everything other than perhaps the self titled is well worth hearing. They weren't breaking any new ground after their first several albums, but these guys were all great musicians whose music was made largely through improvisational jams and tape manipulation, so it's not like they suddenly became shitty players or the...

Someone please teach me how to tolerate/enjoy Malcolm's voice during the first 3 minutes of Yoo Doo Right so I don't stop this awesome album every fucking time the fucking song comes up.

v Monster Movie, Soundtracks, Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, Future Days & Soon Over Babaluma. Six albums and they're all great.

stay away from anything other than the first 5 albums, its maddening how a band could go from being that incredible to on par with the worst shit ive ever heard. "rite time" only serves as an album that i consider comedic in its approach and composition, because it turns out that it was hastily cobbled together out of edited bullshit! "future days" is one of the greatest if not the greatest album ive ever heard

The Can...eh? I just noticed...good album but a bit too dry. I much prefer the lush/wet sounds of Future Days & Soon Over Babaluna.

Great by itself, but I would die to hear a version with Damo Suzuki, recorded circa 1973.

Yeah man, they're only considered to be one of the most important artists in the history of modern music. They're only cited by several other artists as influences across a crazy amount of genres. Underrated. [2]

"father cannot yell is a weak opener for a very good record" you have to be fucking kidding me?! To me, this is like the krautrock equivalent of Slayer's Reign in Blood, where the first and last track are godly, and the rest of the tracks are great, but pale in comparison. [2]
