The band was on fire last night. Drummer Alan Emert's playing was crisp and expressive, at any (and every) tempo. Carl rocked out in his role as keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist/impresario, and bassist Little Jack Melody sang in Greek, beaming his personality all the way to the cheap seats. Danny Jerabek wowed us with his valve trombone playing, and then amazed us on the button box. Then there was that skinny girl in front, wearing a polka dot dress and cowboy boots... Ginny Mac wailed on accordian, sang sweetly and powerfully, and shimmied her way into our hearts. From polkas to waltzes to the Hokey Pokey to a hora version of "People Are Strange", every song was tight, wild, and festive to the point of sheer lunacy. How brave is Brave Combo? You don't need a chestful of medals to find out. All you have to do is show up and dance.
