Biografia

eh, Kraftwerk's achievements are mostly conceptual and based on pioneering new media. As far as Musicianship I think both Brad and Radiohead far outshine any Kraftwerk that I have heard, as they do in listenablity, but that last one is a personal preference. To me they represent the kind of post modern philosophy that made art indecipherable to people without a BFA degree, and ultimately boring to those who hold one but still value formalism enough to enjoy Rachmaninoff, Prokfiev, and Bartok, despite their opposing sides of a silly ideological fence. I think there is enough math in music to say it is not entirely subjective though. As for Brad's music? no it isn't jazz proper. But neither was Coltrane for at least half (some people would say all) of his career. Not that ANYONE can ever be compared to Coltrane, but I think that Brad makes music that is interesting enough for me to be engaged by it, and sometimes it sounds more like jazz than others. it's always interesting though.

Every view on everything is individual; completely and utterly subjective. This is why one cannot say that Brad Mehldau is better than Radiohead or the other way around. You cannot say that Brad Mehldau doesn't play proper jazz only ment for "people who don't like jazz". I would not agree. In my world they are a what I hear a day I couldn't really stand either rock or jazz. Middleway-music. But that's just what I think.

When an artist does a cover of a song it is meant to give listener's a new perspective of the track, it shows what the song is capable of. Brad Mehldau does just that, he reveals the song from a Jazz perspective and god, he does it well. Like what's been said before, Mehldau is the Jazz equivalent to Radiohead therefore he has earnt the right to a fantastic cover. It bends and twist and stretches the song to its maximum capability and I don't think anyone can complain at someone with such talent to do so. I love it.

They play different kind of music... Radiohead is a great rock band and Brad Mehldau is a great jazz musician... i don't think one could be greater than the other.... However, there are people who stand that Radiohead is bigger than KRAFTWERK! I don't agree with that at all haha... Kraftwerk is to electronic music the same as The Beatles to rock music... that's it...
