Maybe someday, you'll be satisfied
When you've lost everything, you'll have nothing left to hide
When you're through running over things
Like you're walking 'cross the tracks

Maybe someday you’ll hear a voice from on high sayin’, “For whose sake did you live, for whose sake did you die?"

I haven't read it since I got into Dylan, although the poem is one of my favorites. I made it halfway into memorizing it, one summer. Thank you, now, for the excuse to revisit it!

Thanks Jacek! I am indeed somewhat invested in Eliot as well, in fact The Waste Land and Other Poems defined his "mockingbird" as a slut I believe, which made me re-evaluate Changing of the Guards's messenger line a little.. in fact, if you read The Waste Land you see so much Dylan there it's crazy.

A commentary, from someone like Ralf who also thinks it's one of Bob's best: http://bob-dylan.org.uk/archives/151

Maybe someday there’ll be nothing to tell, I’m just as happy as you, baby, I just can’t say it so well. Never slumbered or slept or waited for lightning to strike, there’s no excuse for you to say that we don’t think alike. You said you were goin’ to Frisco, stay a couple of months, I always liked San Francisco, I was there for a party once. Maybe someday you’ll see that it’s true - there was no greater love than what I had for you

i honestly think the '80s might be my favorite dylan decade [2]. seriously mate, i couldn't agree more. the thing is i feel with dylan's more celebrated albums, i would only like about half of each record. but i actually love all but one or two songs on the three '80s albums i have. but yeah this song, brilliant.

i honestly think the '80s might be my favorite dylan decade (you have to throw in "born in time", "dignity", and "series of dreams", though)
